No matter how completed Victoria will be when released, I'd be surprised if no patches were needed. After all EU2 has been around for ages and people still find stuff which make the game better either in terms of gameplay or historicality. Well, this is no big news. The fact that Paradox makes these changes is.

Also Paradox forums filled with enthousiastic people willing to share their opinions and tips have been a immense source of more motivation to playing both HoI and EU2. I've actually thought half a year ago that I've done it all, but then wandered off here and have almost played nothing else since. Sure most of games have a forum, but these are the best ones I've encountered this far.

Summing this up, I'd think it would be perfectly OK for Victoria to have a text about this in the game box. Issues like the number of provinces in-game or the amount of leaders are, at least to me, not as close as important as what I've found in these forums.

An important marketing argument of Galactic Civilations was the promise to keep patching it for several years, so why not use the same for Victoria?

I totally agree, and I suspect the vast majority of paradox customers are still playing unpatched 1.00 versions of their games. Which of course as we know those early versions are not very good, and if people don't get patched they may think Paradox games are of poor quality and not buy any in the future. It is therefore in Paradox's best interest to keep their customers by pointing them in the direction of patches. :)

So true, I really like the marketing strategy of Galactic Civilizations. Their argument to potential buyers is like: "Hey, sure you can get a free warez version of our game or buy a similiar game (like MOO3). But if you buy our product you buy an updated product for the coming years with al the free improvements, patches, features and expansions to come..."
That argument actually made me buy that game and not MOO3.

I think this is future of gaming and Paradox is very suited to apply this strategy as well.

F
They are a very small company, so I don't think they have the means to do the distributing.

Distribution isn't that expensive, if it's arranged by downloads, not sending a package to the other side of the World.

At least in Finland Paradox games have been well available, at a normal price and have been displayd in the major magazines. Not much to better there.
