Hello all,

I don't really know where to post this. Mods, feel free to move it where it belongs.

I haven't played the game for over two years now. Just willing to get back to it.
I see a wealth of patches, DLCs and other stuff were published in the meantime.

I bought the game on GamersGate upon its release, but a friend now tells me that I'll need Steam to update the game even if I buy everything @ GG. Which is pretty confusing to say the least.

Could a kind soul tell me what to expect before I part with my hard-earned dollars?

Thanks.

GG buyers have got Steam keys in their account. They are in your account just where you got your CK2 related stuff.
You have to register every single Steamkey including the base game, but you will manage it, well i did. ;)
So you don't have to buy what you already did on GG. Might be you actually get more now. GG users who didn't have all DLCs at the time got some DLCs for free. No idea if still the case.

Official statement see here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...der-Kings-II-Steam-and-GG-Versions-The-Future

edit: By the way, GamersGate now only sells Steamkeys, so you can still buy there.

Ok. I see. Thanks for the quick reply and link.

Before i forget, you only need Steam for patching (and to start it up once after each patching to get DLCs registered).
You can still start the game directly without Steam running from the ck2game.exe.
