I hope they can provide a quick fix for the auto window close bug.

As far as patch versus expansion goes, I would probably buy an expansion if it fixes some of the glaring micro management issues. Governors has been mentioned. Another would be to have auto assign for trade routes. You could then override the auto assign manually where needed because of strategic resources or development of civilization value in a border province.

Free Assassination no more

There should be a gold cost for assasination atempts. Also, there should be some kind of sliding scale for the cost based on distance from capital to capital.

Also, there should be a cost for you to protect your advisers and generals.

Tooooo many assasinations in my game now. (Super Mac has a 60 bad boy rating)

I have to STOP the game at the every month end. Put the good advisors in on the last day of the month and then fire them on the first, replacing them with 0-4 rated advisors. These advisors have zero loyalty put it gets me good results in my technology progress.

What I would like to see in 1.4

1) Complete removal of assasination - was this a common form of "state craft" of the era?

2) Fog of War - you should not be able to see other nation's provincial goveners' abilities, their provinces' trades, also a simplification of what forces are in a province you don't occupy, control, or own - so you only see the total number of troups in the province, plus any armies moving to a province you control, occupy, or own.

3) Communication delay.
Currently when you take a "diplomatic" action you get an immediate result and then you can't "contact" that nation for one month.
I would like there to be a delay based on distance to target, then the effect to occur, and then the delay for the diplomat to return before getting the official response. Where the target is a specific person then the outward path would go via the capital - to find out where the person is - but the return leg would be straight.

*Character/Family 'Philia/Phobia': It would be a trait that modifies international relations when this character is ruling a country. This trait can be possitive (i.e. Phillia-friend of Carthage) or negative (i.e. Phobia-enemy of Egipt). Some historical dinasties or families should have a permanent philia or phobia that affect all its members: Ptolemaic Egyptians should hate Seleucids and viceversa, for example. I'd call them familiy philias or phobias. Other characters may get this trait as a result of events, diplomacy or intrigues, those being individual philia/phobia.

This would make more relevant who's ruling the country, and intrigue can be used to affect external politics this way... assasinating the only heir of that dinasty that hates your country so it's replaced by other dinasty with whom you can make treaties, boost the career of this guy who likes your country... things like this.

Effects of Philia and Phobia:
-When a character with a phibia/phobia rules a nation, the annual diplomatic relationship change with that country is modified possitively if he has philia or negatively if he has phobia. In the case of being 'enemy', diplomatic actions with that country are harder to succeed, specialy military ones (alliances should be almost impossible).
-For no-ruler characters it should modify their diplo/intrigue chances when sent as emissaries.

Individual philia/phobia: Those does not affect all members of a family but individuals, as a trait. The possitive trait could be get when being succesful in many diplomatic actions in a country, when liberating other country's province... The negative trait could be get when failing many diplomatic actions in a country, when fighting other nation's troops many times, when being object of assasination atempts.... These individual philia/phobia traits should have a chance of being inherited (the romans helped my grandaddy a lot, i like them).

This new rule would be accompanied by a new intrigue option: 'secret donation'. This would use treasury money to increase a national or foreign character wealth and popularity when succesful (the money is suposed to be to boost its political career), but if it fails and its discovered it can actualy lower its popularity. A success in using this intrigue action with a foreign character might give him a phillia trait towards your country.

*Assasination attempts should cost big money

Fog of war....YES!!!!!

Communication delay....YES!!!!!

Assasination....Mostly yes!!!!!! (Perhaps this can be reduced somewhat) At the minimum, there should be a gold charge for this. End this choice as a freebie.

Some more

Add attrition losses to the manpower popup - current estimate, or just last month's losses.

Ability to go to next/previous army when beseiging

Moving an army when beseiging only changes the "owner" of the seige if it is the last army - or only if nolonger the biggest army.

Reading Roman history it seems to me that it was more common during the time of the empire than the republic, but primarily as a means to accede to the throne, not for dealing with foreign powers.

Read Polybius, intrigue (kidnapping, assassination, treachery of all kind) was extremely popular, especially amongst greeks and hellenistic monarchies. It was used even in Rome (Gracchi, anyone?) to ensure some "political stability". But those assassinated people are mostly unknown nowadays because they didn't have the time to do much, unlike emperors, who are quite visible...

And I love the idea of communication delay!

I would love either a prequel (Persian wars to Alexander) or a sequel (split into western and eastern empires with lots of religion and politics). Either seem to be hard to do since the times scales are so large. Unless the tech tree is massively expended.

So how many Carthaginians were assassinated by the Roman Republic?

How many Romans were assassinated by the Roman Republic?

Reading about Gracchi, both their deaths sound more like events than direct player action.

Carthaginians? Well, not many. As I said, Greeks were more fond of assassinations than Romans. I can remember Scipio Africanus receiving the news that Roman embassadors, he sent to Carthage to negociate a truce they asked for, had been killed while Carthaginian embassadors sent to Rome to negociate peace were coming back. He captured them and thought about killing them, but he didn't do so because he had Roman honor (which gives Polybius a few thoughts on magnanimity: it's not because someone deserves bad things that you have to lower yourself to their level to give them, etc).

As for internal politics: The Gracchi were assassinated because they asked for laws the senate didn't want, and they were murdered for this reason. Scipio Aemilianus (Scipio Africanus' adoptive grandson) was thought to be murdered too (he married the Gracchi's sister and vehemently opposed the law they proposed). He was thought to be poisoned by his wife (his body was even exposed in public so everyone could make his own mind). These are the three well know people that come to mind, there are many lesser names of "troublemakers" of all kinds that were taken care of. Especially plebs partisans, of which Titus-Livius gives quite a few names.

Is it player action or events? I don't know, especially with the new expansion coming!

Yes

Perhaps so. So charge us extra for the persian campaign (No problem paying for it)

Or extend the timeline (No problem paying for it)

Also, add more territories (No problem paying for it)

But before that, please could you fix the assasin problem. it's very unplayable for us warmongers. (Charge gold for each attempt as a minimum)
