Yeah, V2 is pretty badly programmed when it comes to never-ending random province events that are an enormous annoyance, especially for big empires. Replace them with something meaningful, pretty please? Or actually make them forced - like if you get the event, an option is just forced and you're just informed of the consquences of something (ex. a riot or something & your police responding), but not auto-pausing the game and demanding you to pick an option....

I think it would be good if the crime modifiers could be extended a bit. They can come and go without you needing to be notified at all, and their description tells you why they're there. This would work well for events with only one choice, that add a modifier.

Having the game click ticking in monthly increments would be a pretty bad idea. Either you'd break battles, movement, etc. that are now fine-tuned, or if you changed those to last multiple months, you wouldn't achieve anything except shortening the amount of game time.

I would like the option to set a policy in relation to repeat events so that you will get an icon to let you know the event has happened, as opposed to a pop up and if you want to change your policy you can open up the event and do so, but otherwise is safe to ignore.

The damn native regiment event I get every few months is annoying, so I do get where the angst re copperhead event comes from.

Recalibrating the game to progress on a monthly or quarterly basis would allow for a more sophisticated AI, as the number of times the extra calculations would have to be repeated would be greatly reduced...and even at that the calculation time might be sufficiently lengthy to leave to computer and do something else, like replenish beer or make room for more, and return and repeat as necessary so long as every time the game pauses so that the months don't tick away because even though you said you would go back to the game at the end of the paragraph those paragraphs in Faulkner can go on for pages and pages...:)

You sure you don't want to just play a Total War game? :p Because that's basically the kind of time progression you're describing.

Never played Total War...came over here because P-Dox made a computer version of one of my favorite boardgames, Europa Universalis; loved it, despite the lack of turns. I'd love to MP, but that would only work for me if a turn-based PBEM were available (unless y'all felt like pausing while I mosey on down to the tavern).

Wait till you get the industrial advances and get those random province improvement dialog boxes. Every trivial thing that happens a dialog box you can't evade pops up in the middle of the screen again and again demanding that you acknowledge these trivial events. It's even worse when you realize that your farm is getting nitroglycerine and other mining enhancements. This is really pretty bad. Instead of putting all that time into a newspaper they should have cleaned this up and created a means for the player to pay to enhance his provinces.

These kinds of dialog boxes should only be for the most critical decision events. Not trivial datum.

Then there's the endless mud marches and praise for Simone Bolivar's book. The game becomes dialog box whack-a-mole.
