Boat retinues would be very convenient instead of having to regroup your ships every time you start a war. For example when I play as a pagan I never disband my ships, because I don't get the "raised levies" penalty.

("Boat retinues" sounds kinda silly though, they should be named something else)

- AI: Will no longer accept a matrilineal marriage if the betrothal was non-matrilineal and vice versa
- When marrying betrothed characters, the AI will now always propose the type of marriage agreed upon in the betrothral

Finally the AI will actually keep its word!
Always annoymed me that they kept sending me another proposal than the one we agreed on, hoping I would misclick....

Some kingdoms can be rather multicultural, i cant wrap my head around it.

Its most likely that foreigners are "not from the realm." People in the HRE would consider anyone from not-the-HRE a foreigner.

Imho it mean that someone is just attacked, all def. wars except civil wars.

Does this mean that we can effectively neutralize the "must not marry an infidel" restriction (e.g., allow Christians to be tolerant of Zoroastrians, thus allowing marriages between the faiths)?

I think it'd be interesting if pagans that were vassals of a Christian or Muslim rulers that were tolerant of pagans could still go raiding. Possibly with the exception that they can't raid people of their ruler's new faith.

How does a flank get surrounded?

Three flanks (the centre is called a flank for this purpose), one falls, so there's a way to break through to attack the enemy from another side than frontal.

How does a flank get surrounded?
Exactly what it sounds like: having only units in the middle flank, with nothing in the right and left flanks. This actually used to be a legitimate strategy, as an overwhelmingly concentrated middle flank can more easily rout the enemy's middle flank and overcome the flanking penalties from the enemy's left and right flanks.

If I have a republic vassal that starts out small, but ends up conquering large amounts of my realm from my other vassals, what will happen?

I expect you simply will not be able to grant any more counties to mayors.

The four changes are a fix to a common tactic of making your entire realm archbishoprics and republics to get more income and stability.
