truce timer change:
its actually more a nuisance. If you really depend on hitting again you can still take the hits by breaking truce - suggested you are far enough in the game to do so. As such this change actually supports diplomacy.

Bottom line:
It suggests a strategy change of yours and not a complete gameplay change - so am ok with it.

This must e the first time that superflash1 said something positive about EU IV or maybe he is being sarcastic?

Anyways, I haven't tried the new patch yet and will probably wait for the first hotfix before trying it. I red that there are already a few issues that need to be addressed like units not being apple to properly retreat anymore.
No, no, I actually like this patch and am settling in to a France game. I need to put more hours in before I start complaining. For now this patch has only added good things, except perhaps the truce timer but that isn't the biggest of deals.

How does that even make sense? this truce timer thing mostly effects small nations...

oh wait, let me guess you didn't actually read the patch notes and play the game

The reason you were getting railed with loans and lost a coalition war as the Ottomans is the same reason that you believe the truce timer "mostly effects small nations".

By design, the truce timer actively protects large nations more than it does anything else. Johan even said that was the case, but a simple glance at the mechanic makes it obvious that it does that anyway. It also screws over certain positions without much defensible upside and makes it even more implausible to replicate historical conquests...all to hold the hands of a player who screwed up as a large nation in a MP game.

Now, if by "mostly effects" you meant "makes it harder for small nations in exchange for buffing large nations", then yes you would be correct. Why that was necessary has yet to be elucidated.

So if I am say, Austria, a modest sized nation, up against France. I peace out with france, give them a bunch of stuff because they are obviously stronger, and we get a 15 year timer. 6 years later, France gets into a war with Castille, England, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, etc. and has its manpower eaten up.

I as smaller Austria, cannot attack France now for another 10 year. I am sitting with full Manpower ready to take advantage of an opponent much larger than me, but he has 10 years to peace out and recover his manpower and army...after which he will attack me and I will die just like last time.

The truce timer helps two types of people:
Those who play MP
Those who play as big nations but aren't good at the game at all.

... its pretty strange when forum is not flooded with hatred after patch release, looks like paradox did a good job with this one.
...the lack of a massive outcry by the community (which seems mandatory with every patch) is encouraging
Lol. Didn't they have to delete at least one 20+ page thread? Seemed like "outcry", yesterday, even if some of it may have been premature.

@TheMeInTeam:

C'mon man I'm trying to enjoy the game now. If it takes playing France which I've never done before then so be it.
Well, initial observations suggest that the patch continues the trend of encouraging playing as majors. So he probably is playing it the way the devs intend.

What I meant was that it makes it harder for small nations, because now, just to eat up a minor countries might take up to 15 years if you're playing as Scotland or Manchu, as someone pointed out.

i like the new patch but France is still stupidly strong. they single handedly wrecked an alliance of Prussia(me), Spain, Austria(inherited burgundy and i have pu), England and a few minors without even breaking a sweat

Not all small nations, just those with limited avenues to expand. Scotland's a good example; they'll be stuck waiting a long time to DoW England again. Kochin/Venad/Malabar are even better examples; their best opening is a timing hit on Vijaynagar alongside (either through guarantee or other means) a bigger regional nation like Bahmanis or Gujarat. Stuck on a 15 year truce, they won't be able to do a whole lot.

HRE minors should be fine for the most part, though dismantling France eventually will be harder. Chimu takes a hit. Korea takes a very nasty one.

ok I was at first not glad to hear about the truce timer change but here's what I think after playing

it's OKAY

it's not too bad unless you are in the HRE, where you can now only take 1-2 provinces at a time and then you need to wait a million years for AE and truce to cooldown, so I'm never going to play as Brandenburg again

but it's still OK

the only thing which sucks about the truce timer is how, if you make a country release a nation , the truce you have with the nation is less than what the other nation has with the released one

to make things clear,

I made Bohemia release Silesia
Bohemias truce with Silesia is less time than my truce with bohemia

??

makes no sense tbh

Paradox has ruined EU4. And they won't bother to fix it. Why?
Because they've made so much money, customers are nothing to them now. People will still buy the game not knowing how horrible it is. Even if no one buys EU4, Paradox has a million other games to milk money with. That's the problem with every company. When a customer comes up to them, they don't see a human, they see dollar signs. Paradox is a fine example of this.

It's actually possible to beat France nowadays. I've only played a small nation and defensive wars/CTA's against them, but it certainly ain't as impossible as before.

Well yes, the other patches didn't do much for me. Does that offend you? Need some tissues?

EDIT: Just look at what they did to the Hordes. I dare you to defend them.

Hordes? In this patch or the prior ones? They've always been ridiculously powerful in player hands, and largely suck when controlled by the AI. AI could use improvement all across the board, and I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to be defending whether hordes need a buff or a nerf.
