- Being completely out of supply now reduces organisation daily.
- Air Transports can now ship less supplies.

So you're saying it won't be as easy to, say, paradrop 225 or so Fallschirmjäger-Divisionen* behind Soviet lines? Damn.

*Just using a totally random example.

Which still leaves para's totally overpowered for humans :)

They shold be further restricted to not being able to drop more than 2 provinces behind the lines/coast, avoiding a lot of silliness. Maybe even restrict airtransport to 1 regiment per plane for drop purposes.

Why not? If they can do their damage quick enough, then you should still be able to get away with that. Just not as easy as in the totally random example. ;)

Supply has been improved and a little rebalanced. In the interface thread you can read more about interface and map changes regarding supply as well.

- Landlocked areas without supply production will be attached to allied supply networks where possible.
- Being completely out of supply now reduces organisation daily.
- Air Transports can now ship less supplies.
- Rewrote supply logistics definitions to properly handle connected areas between puppets and non-puppets.

Connections to allied supply nets is an improvement, but I'm very skeptical to the rest of this patch. There have been several good suggestions on how to handle it better already (depots, shipping even if connected by land) so I won't add to the confusion. It's annoying to see Oslo supplied via the vast emptyness of Northern Finland/Norway instead of the short shipping route from Denmark.

Hello everyone,

would it be possible

a. to fool the AI into believing that eurasia is not a single land mass (so that casablanca would no longer be considered to have a "direct land connection" to Rome)?

b. to add a "threshold" in the land supply system, above which the AI automatically considers that your capital and the province where supplies are needed are not connected?

I don't yet own HoI3 (i played the demo, and the game ran too slow for me to enjoy). I have been keeping an eye over this forum, hoping that these problems will eventually be solved.

I'm pretty sure if they could rework or modify the supply system for 1.4 they would, they know it's one of the biggest issues for the players. I think however, that's it's so complex they have to push it for later and a sever reworking of the game mechanics/code. Keep the ideas coming though, we might see some of them incorporated into the eventual fix.

As the system is set up right now, it is hard to change. It is not that we don't WANT to do it, we just can't make it right now.

Could you elaborate? Then we can make the best of this brain-storming session.

I think the worst supply bottleneck problems could be solved by making Istanbul region and the rest of Turkey separated so that even if you could pass over them with armies, supplies couldn't do so. This way only problems would occur if you own everything from Casablanca to Caucasus
This should also be done for Panama channel so that ahistorical USA doesn't have to supply South-America trough Middle-America. Maybe by separating Colon to 2 provinces?

I like honesty. Good to hear, thanks Kallocain! (I'm not even that annoyed by the current system, or the system that it appears will be in place for 1.4 at least)

Here is my problem with the beta patch:

Player: USA

It is januar 1941, I have landed in africa on italian side, becouse of Italy is steam rolling UK there, they was near suez channel when I landed. It goes ok with supplies with 10 x light arm div (2 x ligth arm + 1 x recon) on Italian owned land.
When I cross the UK/Egypt owned boarder that Italy held I start to see some problems, they get supplies from Cape Town. That is working for me until I get hold on the port in Alexandria (or what it is called in game) near suez channel.

Here is where there is problem in game imho:
The supplies still comes from Cape Town, not from retaken port in north africa. South America can't supply my fuel/supplyes more then one day now and then. I crossed the channel (suez channel) and are pritty stuck there with 4 provinzes).

My hope for a solution as I see it is using transport planes for supllies but I have 0 at the moment, building them now. Retaking the port in Israel I feal it won't help as I don't see anny changes that supllies is not changed back to the province owner when it is been liberated.

The cape town supply issue is happening for me as well as US. Italy is fighting Britain in Libya, so I land and take the west Italian port and link up with the British. However, my troops are being supplied from Cape town 183 nodes away, instead of my own port.

This is actually not my biggest problem, since my supply network will eat 100% percent of my supply production on any given day now. Not sure what caused it, its some kinda bug I am trying to track down. My network was taking 300 supplies or so a day, then my 99999 supplies went to zero in one day, and suddenly my network was eating 8000 supplies a day. I had all my IC in supply production and whenever I adjusted my IC, the supply network drain would adjust as well. Impossible to fight :(

The supply system as a whole is by my account a disaster. As it is now major historical events such as the ardennes offensive would be totally useless. Seems to me it was mentioned that the hoi series was a attempt to make a game that is as historically correct as possible. If that is true then this is a game-breaking bug which must be adressed as soon as possible. I feel like a fool now for spending money on a unfinished game
(for the second time I might add. We all remember Kotor2).
I also second the opinion of Alex_brunius. Sea routes have always been preferred to land. (Marco polo, anyone? Colombus?)

Some Excellent Ideas Here

I'm very impressed with the suggestions offered here, and I hope at least some of them can be implented (barring that, PLEASE fix this issue in the expansion version). For myself, I applaud the CONCEPT of making logistics an integral part of warfare strategy, forcing the player to deal with such issues. Thus, HOI3 gets my praise for attempting to translate that CONCEPT into reality. But the EXECUTION of that concept is seriously flawed. One post mentioned the frustration of being at the mercy of a supply system that the player has virtually no control over. That's a great point, but the situation is even worse than that. We're also at the mercy of a supply system that we can't even understand. I hate to say this (and I'm exaggerating for effect but only very slightly), but it looks to me as if the person who designed the supply system for HOI3 was actually a double agent for another game company whose mission was to make sure that HOI3 failed.
