There is already an idiot that gave Mare Nostrum a negative review few minutes after the release on Steam.

Seriously.

Turns out it just came out and it's already mixed.
I imagine it went like that:
1. Open the game
2. Realize you aren't in the mood for EUIV at the moment
3. Give negative review, that's obviously DLC's fault.

On a side note, still no Bukharan ideas?

That's kinda how I felt when trying to try out the new patch.

Austria deciding that a custom nation encompassing 1444 Naples was a rival didn't help. Them allying the Pope didn't either.

-Estonian is now in the Baltic culture group.
-Karelian is now in the Russian culture group.
-Renamed Scandinavian culture group to Nordic.
-Finnish is now in the Nordic Group.
-Finno-Ugric group renamed to Ugric

So paradox broke up a completely valid culture group and divvied them up between completely unrelated culture groups because they're butthurt swedes who hate the idea that finnics aren't germanic.
Go choke on a long one. Uninstalled.

So you messed up - again - with Transylvania in your more than disgusting pro Hungarian bias. "Carpathian" and "Transylvanian" (!?) cultures... what a BS. Good to know, a perfect reason to discard this bloated DLC.

with so much negative responses to the new dlc/patch it must mean that even more people are enjoyind and playing it right now, however last 3 dlc it looks like the resistance is growing, and for some aspects people are simply more then right to complain. either way for me eu4 is now done, and i predict no more dlc's after mare, and u know what thats a good thing!. means paradox can put all efford into eu5 BASIC game

btw, how can people disagree with posts above? are u saying paradox is correct there?

How about French, German and Italian culture groups?
I didn't use them as examples because I don't know much about their cultural history and would have a hard time telling what's the difference between Westphalian and Saxon or Lombardian and Neapolitan.
Time to read some scientific papers? Here's a good one:

A. M. Sakharov, "Rus' and Its Culture in the Thirteenth to Fifteenth Centuries,"
Volume 18, Issue 3, 1979
It deals with the effects of the Mongol invasion on the forming of the Russian nation. The culture is always described as "Russian" (with a footnote about Byelarusian and Ukrainian cultures), and I wasn't able to find any mentions of Novgorodian or Ryazanian cultures being significantly different from Muscovite. In fact, Ryazan is only mentioned in passing as "an important centre" and Novgorod is mostly discussed in terms of politics and the creation of the republic. One aspect might be that Novgorod wasn't affected nearly as badly by the Mongol invasion, and so it was better able to preserve the Russian culture therefore being an important city for its resurrection.

By the end of the XIII century there already began a "renaissance" of Russian culture, and after the unification of Russia there was a further "interpenetration of local cultures", but it's never suggested that the difference between Muscovy and Novgorod was just as big as between Muscovy and Southwestern Rus (aka Ukraine - called the Ruthenian culture in EU4). By this logic, you could assign a separate culture to every Russian state. Tver, Nizhny Novgorod, Pskov, Smolensk, Chernigov, Pereyaslavl...
So auto-updating on Steam will just make all your saves unplayable? Sounds awesome.
You can go to "betas" settings menu and choose the previous patch to finish your games. Just don't try to open any 1.15 games in the 1.16 version. That will apparently break them forever.

While of course modding is an option its still pretty bad to see that neither history nor the actual culture matters in this change.
While im not familiar with the Transylvania nor the finnish change.
I certainly know that the Turkish culture doesnt belong in the "Levantine" group and that Turkish beyliks shouldnt be allowed to form Arabia.
Thats like giving Bavaria the decision to form Poland.
