Hi,

I am playing France 1936 scenario and I noticed some surprising things.
SInce As France I had no chance of resisting Germany assault in 1939 and 40, i decided to follow an ahistorical very aggressive path. basically early in 37 i left the allies and i dowed nationalist china and conquered a big chunk of china . i then dowed nat spain, then republican spain, then yougoslavia (which did not have any frined to guarantee its independence). at that time greece, and turkey joined the fight so i conquered them as well. that took place in early 38 i think. later on i dowed romania as well. after that I decided to get rid of the autocratic portugal and annexed it. I then relaised that at some point in 1940 hungary is not part of any alliance so i annexed it as well. and lastly in 1941, italy which independnace is not guaranteed was also dowed and annexed. I have now a very large France with a lot of IC, but not a lot of manpower and I would liek to attck germany and see what i can do. It is 1943, and Germany is staying still not attacking russia, not really doing anything to the allies (who are gently bombing west germany since 1939). Russia is not doing much either. both country have gathered most of tehir armies on their mutual frontier but nothing happens. And in teh East Japan has not attacked the US either. Basically it seems like i am the only nation doing anything, it is therefore starting to be a bit boring. Does somebody have an explanation for this situation where the AI is not attacking at all?
cheers,

You have effectively encircled Germany, it is very unlikely that the AI will attempt to attack you as they will have to fight on many different fronts. The AI does know if enemies control border provinces (Italy, Yugo, Hungary) and does count the number of divisions stationed there. By 1943 your land doctrines can be a match for the German doctrines and I'd have thought you could fight and annex Germany. This would leave you in the same interesting position of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1812, could France do better this time around.

Its most likely because you annexed China, thats probably why the Japanese haven't declared war on the US or anything.

On what difficulty and agressivness do you play? And did you allow democracies to declare war? (guess so, since you as France did it) I must say that you picked your targets well - nations that stood alone so nobody DOWed you. But when you attacket italy that is when I would have imagined that GER declares on you. Unless of course you play on normal agressive only.

When your are playing so ahistoricaly, the AI will have no idea what to do since it is a scripted AI.

hi, I want to ask you that how your JAP AI is performing in Sino-Japanese war. Is it making landings at Central and Southern China ? Is it passive ?

I am asking this because I am trying to figure out if Japanese dumbness in m game is caused by SMEP mod or 1.07 patch.

I don't know if your talking to the author of the thread or anyone, but I'm playing 1.02 and the Japanese AI is still making landings. If the 1.07 AI is supposed to be more advanced then its probably your mod.

Thanks for the answers.
I was playing normal/normal and democracy can declare war obviously.
As one of you mentionned, I guess you are right, the AI is lost because of the ahistorical route I took. too bad. this weekend, as i was preparing to wage war with nazi germany, i experimented with the intelligence system and manage to coup germany. so all of a sudden, germany was market liberal with much less IC than when it was national socialist. it was still being bombed by the allies though. and soon after in45 SU decided to attack germany. I thus decided to wage war against SU instead since Germany is not a real threat anymore (plus they really lack energy, oil and supplies now) and if i do not deal with SU now, it will become an unstoppable monster. actually it already is. with my meager 100 or so inf units and 20 armor i am having a really hard time to beat SU. I managed to attack from the south (Romanian border and across the black sea) and i took stalingrad easily enough, as well as baku (my plan was to starve SU of oil and IC). I also managed to send a few mountaineer commandos to capture most of the IC in the east (sverdlorsk area) but now, this brave move is over, SU will recapture everything soon enough and is already pushing very hard on my very stretched front line in the south (from rowe to baku). meanwhile germany is holding its position but not making much advance. it is only surviving because i regularly give thousands of supplies and oil, but most of the GEr units have lost more than 50 % of their strength. my units are also in a poor state and i do not have the manpower to create much more. My only chance i think is too hold on until i can destroy most of SU IC with dozens of ballistic missiles. Any other idea to help me out of this predicament?

Regarding Japan: I did not annex china, japan did. I think Japan did fought pretty well pushing hard from north to south and doing a couple of amphibious landings near Nankin. it was not passive at all at that time (in 37-38). The problem of AI passivity came after, from 39 onwards. I was also very surprised to see that the independence guarantees agreements were not renewed. I just enabled me to dow countries one after the other. it is good in a way, but felt a bit gamey as well. unfortunately, i don't see how i could survive as France without this slightly gamey strategy. I guess , i am not goo enough yet!
Anyway, thanks for your comments/advice.
Have fun!
