I figure this is most likely the result of the bothersome nature of AI programming as opposed to a bug as such. I've noticed that when it comes to passengers changing lines, sometimes they will walk from further distances in spite of a stop being much closer on the same line to the place they are going. For example, in the attached picture you can see the passengers who have just alighted the bus and are walking to the elevated busway and they will in the process walk past the next stop on the very line they were on. (actually, they will cross over to the left side of the road and then cross bak over)

Also want to point out that they are not unhappy and the buses are not overcrowded. 2 or 3 passengers will get off at the stop on the ramp as I intend but the majority won't and its not just here that I have this problem. Its really a minor problem but I figured it would be worth pointing out

Yup, I noticed this the other day too. I was panning over my city and noticed there were hundreds of people walking across a very long bridge spanning the river! It appeared that people were getting on the metro, going one stop across the river, then getting off the metro and walking back on the bridge to the side of the river they were already on. I have no idea what would cause this. I deleted the bridge so now the only bridges are highways to disallow pedestrians from crossing. After that people weren't walking such a long distance, but I did notice that people were not always taking the logical path to their destination.

Here's an illustration of what one of my cims did, and they also got off at the same trouble causing station at the river crossing:

Followed a CiM for almost 24 in game hours at a time (until I got bored). He was going to a destination relatively close to him, that would've required 1 bus change. Instead he went for a joy ride all over the map, boarding 4 metro lines (some several time), countless buses and doing a good amount of walking (at one time he took a bus for a station, then he walked back to a metro station near the initial bus station)

It might be a bug, but it's more fun to just think that he got lost... or simply went for a joy ride :) Hopefully at some point CO will start logging a debugging routes on large maps with lots of lines...

The AI prefers to walk for some reason. I've seen them walking way way too far with empty bus lines and a good reputation (infinite money on in sandbox). I checked the walking rate and it's always between 70-90% ... I think it's the devs way of getting around road traffic... which I quite frankly do not like :p I wanna see and deal with road traffic!! If I don't have road traffic I might as well just build 2 lane roads with sidewalks...

Oh, and if I don't build sidewalks, nothing gets built :p

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed this.

I build a dedicated busway connecting the main city to a suburb, but half the people get off at first stop in the city and walk ALL the way back down the busway to the suburb they came from.

Pedestrians should be prohibited from streets with no side walks.

I noticed that sims rather ride longer and change the line again to not walk a block more.

Another thing I noticed, is that when you have lines sharing stops they wait longer for the change than the have to. I don't have a screenshot at hand so I tried to illustrate this below.

cim_longway.png

I have a depot serving three tram lines. One branching off at the first stop, the other two splitting at the top after the second stop. I've noticed that CIM's that are switching from Line 1 (the one that goes upper right) to Line 2 (the one that goes upper left) at the lower two stops even though they'd be faster at the upper two stops. It's a minor bother but it does bother me because passengers use the lower stop to switch between all three lines leeds to the stop being constantly overcrowded (100-200 passangers waiting)....

This might be stupid, but those cims are in some case acting as I would.

I would do the same as the cims in the first poster case, and the same as xenon5 case.

After, passenger taking 10 lines to go 10m far, I wouldn't do. I wonder if it could be because on the way, because it took him hours, he would change his destination.
