One thing I really like about CS is Districts and Specialization, which got me thinking why do I have to build a square park? Why cant I make that small strip of spare land behind the housing estate that otherwise wont ever really be used into a park and stick a few swing sets, pathways and maybe a duck pond. Or make that gigantic forest over the river into a kind of national park with campsites and nice vistas for looking out over the city? Why is parkland restricted to only building parks on a roadside?

parks aren't always square or rectangle either.

maybe someone could make a circle park to fit in the center of roundabouts.

i don't like that you have to put everything right against the road....houses especially. i mean...how many houses do you really see right against the road like that? and where i live, plenty of them have long long windy driveways!

Expanding the park mechanism:
If parks improve happiness, then so should wilderness. Wilderness is everything not zoned, except wasteland. Wasteland is areas previously zoned and areas blighted by pollution or noise. You cannot turn wasteland into wilderness, but you can turn it into a park or zone it.

Oh and wilderness has wild animals.

Yeah, this is a big limitation in the game. Parks and plazas should not be plopped down.

I'd prefer to say "Not all parks and plazas should be plopped down."
I want to keep what we have, but not be limited to it. We should have the option to also make large parks much like we mark districts with a brush. Large farmland and beaches too.

I like this suggestion as well. It should be that trees and plants add to the happiness as they make the people healthier. The values don't have to be very high, unlike the regular parks, but having those great expanses of trees and planting trees around the neighborhoods should do more than make things pretty.

the trees you add to the game should also act as a buffer...not just the trees that are part of the roads when you add them....

I agree 100%. (More if it were possible!)

Although some cims might not agree now that they burn like crazy. ;)
