Ever since the early days of city builders, parks have always been square or rectangular. Why?

Cities:Skylines has this awesome districts feature which I think could be perfect for outlining areas we want to designate parks. Give us some props to place around these designated "park areas" and weave in some of the paths and bikes trails, and ta-dah! Unique park!

I don't see why games limit us with plowable parks. Sure they are good for quick and each, but wouldn't it be cool to form our own parks with landscaping, maybe some docks and trails? Or a small trail park that weaves in a small ravine surrounded by homes? What about a waterfront park that uniquely follows the coast line, or a forested park that straddles a river with cool little bridges?

I think being able to mark our own park areas would be a great idea. Again, it would be the same tool as the "districts" tool already in the game, but one for park making. It would be revolutionary and a first for city builders! Lets build some parks!

What is the purpose? Just more paint for the city paint-brush or should they exist for a certain reason? I am concerned in functionality game-wise. If this adds up to the depth of the game this would be great. Otherwise...I am not sure whether I would pay up more for mere eye-candy content.

This is already possible and employed by many gamers. You CAN build your own parks in the editor and you CAN create larger unique parks in game. All that's missing? The allocation of district status and its overall impact on wellbeing/beautification being acknowledged

If I understand this post I don't agree. Cities Skylines provides all the tools necessary to create parks i.e. paths, trees, etc, etc. This allows players to create unique parks in any form they want making every city unique. I don't like the square parks and don't think their necessary. I'd like to see a fill tool that could be used for grass, concrete or ashphalt, rather than plopping square parking lot.

You can do this easily in game. You can define the area and fill it with pathways and assets/props to create the unique park you wish- any size- no limits

this is one thing i have always hated about city builders. you had to place a park piece to get the benefits of having a park, instead of just leaving the space open and not placing anything there. so you are always stuck with tons of parks that are usually way too big and--in this game--have to be placed by a road.

Not all open space is parkland. Some areas would be zoned but undeveloped, some waste ground or disputed ownership. The majority of parkland also has to be accessible to the public and park services staff and therefore requires pedestrian and or vehicular access.

i'm sure other areas/towns/cities...have something like this...

but there's at least one park i can recall off the bat and say that it's definitely not connected to a street directly. it's connected to a parking lot, and the parking lot is connected to a "side street". if parks in the CS game could be placed that way, that would be cool!

Of course, the more options available the better!

Not all open space is parkland. Some areas would be zoned but undeveloped, some waste ground or disputed ownership. The majority of parkland also has to be accessible to the public and park services staff and therefore requires pedestrian and or vehicular access.

but the problem is when you want to piece a bunch of park pieces together, they all have to be touching the road. you wouldnt be able to make, say "central park" in this game unless you had a whole bunch of extra roads placed inside the park. if you want to have your baseball stadium facing a particular way, it has to have a road on the specific side otherwise it isnt connected.

what i meant by 'open space being a park' was that you would still designate the space as parkland. but you didnt necessarily have to place park pieces in it. it could just be grass and trees.
