Paradox's New Title - Yet Another RPG?

In a fairly recent live stream, Johan said iirc that they had two games to be announced next year (at the convention thingy). One he said we'd all known they were working on, which I took to be HoI4. The other he thought we'd be all excited about. Well, the Paradox Holiday Countdown is up, and the picture is said to be "nice teaser image of a yet unannounced game! Tails and blue capes is going to be all the rage next year!" There was a third game he mentioned that was well out into the future, so I would not expect teasers of that before the one to be announced fairly soon.

Now, as fantasy RPG teaser images go, this is just fine. But as a hint of what we were potentially excited about, I have a tough time seeing this as pointing to something other than standard RPG fare, which would be a disappointment. It wouldn't be downright bad, but it's not new and exciting, at least for me.

So, what does this tell us about the upcoming game?
- this is Paradox, so is there a Grand Strategy angle this image could point to?
- is there something other than "you are level one, to reach level two, kill some rats" that they could do if this were an RPG?
- maybe you have to marry another Elf with solid claims to a marginally weaker village nearby and then poison her father?
- there's no arrow in her knee, so that's a plus

It's great to get some hints about the new game (franchise?), but I'm trying to see where this is headed that I haven't been before.

this may be from PI not PDS. But a mod said the secret project is not HOI4, and one is a CKII exopansion. The secret project is done by Doomdark so I guess Rome II with more character stuff?

I'm going by memory, but it wasn't that long ago and I was quite interested. Rome 2 was pretty thoroughly shot down (nobody is working on it now).

There are five Paradox teams. One is doing CK2 DLCs, one is doing EU4 DLCs, one is working on a project pretty far out in the future, and two are working on games which will be announced at the ParadoxCon. One Johan said we'd say "yeah I knew you were working on that" which fwiw I have no doubt is HoI4. I mean, it's not CK or EU, I don't think Vicky3 and I think they might have said elsewhere that's not happening soon, and they said nobody is working on Rome2.
The other Johan said we'd all be excited about (I'll be pretty excited whenever HoI4 is announced).

You may be correct that this isn't even the in-house title, I hadn't even thought of that :bugeyes:

Well Doomdark is working on a new game and it's not HOI4, that was said in the advent thread. Maybe there is a 3rd project and that 3rs is HOI4?

Well, okay, I guess I'll either have to watch the live stream over again or just wait like everyone else I would like Rome 2 as well, though. Paradoxcon is late January, early February? Not too long to wait.

It might be a fantasy based strategy game. I would send my firstborn to their offices as tribute if they did something like Age of Wonders but on a grand strategy setting. Well, my secondborn, firstborn is heading to Triumph next year.

Oh good. Not that RPGs are bad, or even that the image definitely pointed to one. But I was/am really looking forward to a new franchise from PDS, pretty much anything new Grand Strategy wise, and was hoping someone could offer me a good take on the image.

More teasers, please. Something with a map, perhaps?

The Game of Thrones mod for CKII has shown there is a market for a Paradox style grand strategy game and the more recent Elder Kings mod has further proved the point. I'd certainly buy such a game.

There's a CK2 Expansion and a top-secret unannounced game. My money would be on a dark ages game, as people constantly pester the devs for one, and HOI4/Rome 2 have both been shot down.

But, really, it could be anything. Anything at all.
