Okay, I won't blame you entirely, part of it is my fault for playing for a while before coming to work.

Let's set the stage.

Me Byzantium, the year is 1512.
43,000 men, 13k in the bank 46k force limit, 375 gold, 9 ducats/month at full maintenance, tied for highest mil tech (10), 2 ahead of Austria, 1 ahead of France, but they both have military ideas
Nevermind navies, mine is second only to England and they are not involved in this story
Alliance/RM Austria
Alliance/RM Castile, my family is on that throne, they have PU over Aragon and Naples
Royal Marriage, France, my family is on the throne, if I was not allied to Austria, I could be allied to France
My vassals are not relevant to this discussion, though they may throw a few men at sieges.

I have a claim on Ferrara, Ferra has no allies and took over all the Papal state territory in Italy, meaning, yes, I can take Rome. Ferrara is in the HRE.

Austria, 75k men, 17k in the bank (the Inheritance fired, and they've been aggressive, land route across their empire)
France 57k men, 57k in the bank

Just 5 minutes before I had to leave for work! Austria, declares on France, I see a battle, 52k french against 40k Austrians, Austria building troops in almost every province. Maintenance to full, call back my diplos

Am I getting called? A month ticks by I have 2 diplos home, I send one to make a claim on Hungary, I want to say Lubeck? Their only sea province, whatever that one is. I want to Westernize. I have been staying ahead on mil tech, falling a small distance behind on Admin, and Diplo is right in the tank, tech 4.

Buzzer goes, time for work. Yes, screw you Paradox, this is going to be a tough day.

Edit, ooooooo....If I drop Austria before declaring on Ferrara and ally France? Or do I just let Austria dump me when I declare on Ferrara?

Austria is allied to 3 electors!!!! Can I separate peace them? Ahh, I want to be Emperor, I will be able to add all my provinces to the HRE if I take Lubeck...I have to wait until France is too far in debt to join against Hungary for that one. The possibilities are mind boggling.
