Paradox seems to have made very, extremely bad hiring decisions recently (at least, I'd like to think that this is not coming from core management).
Some people (and definitely not Arrowhead who have long moved on to other games) have been wrecking Magicka's already fragile code (it used to be buggy but at least playable) and retroactively removing features, stopping groups of friends dead in the middle of their playthrough. Are they trying to make people allergic to force updates? Do they think nobody cares about this classic game so they can experiment on it like it's a secret Soviet lab?
I wonder if the same people from the well-timed "mobile survey" are behind this. Don't you guys have phones?
In parallel, some not-so-well received experiments have been run on the Crusader Kings II launcher.
Either way, if anyone with some sense from Paradox reads this, act fast before the PR scandal taints your reputation irreversibly. Most people like you because you publish smart games and refrain from scummy tactics... or did. Good will is slow to build and quick to burn away in the wind.
Personally, since a feature was removed retroactively from my purchased copy of Magicka, I want a refund.
More details here.
