Why didn't you include it that when soilders die in combat their POP goes away with them? Since Im yet to see an answer from someon in the "know" about the reason Im curious. Was it because the AI coudln't handle it, a human coudltn' handle it? Too many die...or was it just an oversight or meant to be added later.

I wasn't gonna post this but I dont have the game yet so my mind is wondering again...

Maybe soldier pops represent families with a tradition of joining the military. Not all the men in the military pop would actually join the army, but maybe one or two boys out of each generation. Point being you might be able to draw on that portion of the population without destroying it.

If what I've read is correct, POPs don't always represent the same exact number of people, so rather than "killing" POPs outright, they should be reduced (according to the amount of losses taken in combat, no more no less...).

In any case, I don't really see it as a totally necessary or "gamebreaking" thing (or rather, at least most of the people who are posting AARs and stuff don't), just an optional feature that could possibly be added, or not.

Not that this helps, since I do not have the game. Pops represent only those men who work. So, they do not represent the entire population of the your country or province. The pops represent only 1/4 of your entire population. So, maybe it is possible to get recruits (young recruits who would not be working men) to replace soldiers lost in war. With that said, your total population should go down when at war. I do not know if it does because I don't have the game. These are just some thoughts. Try the POP section of the moding forum, they could surely can help answer this question there.

I'll abstain from this discussion until I get my copy but it seems that casualties f.e. 1 MIO for Russia in some AAR it has no effect on the population,

There is a lot of talk about "unwanted" ethnic backgrounds and different ways to get rid of them... frankly i dont like it.

Why do you think its the working class who get sent to the front line? Obviously you can't over do it, cos who will pick up the litter, work the crappy jobs and generally be treated like shit?

Naturally you need to add a risk of class uprising if you pushed things too far.

I really can't understand why is this topic surfacing all the time. Imaging people using a game to "realize" their dreams about ethnic "modification" of a region makes me sick.

Patric,
I dont have any specifics but i have been here for a while as you might have noticed and there has been a lot of debating about deportion etc. I just think that maybe we should think a bit more about what we write.

Iirc Soldier pops are not the same as manpower. If you get all your soldiers killed then your manpower pool will empty irrespective of how many soldier pops you still have. So the military families are still alive but all their men of arms bearing age are dead. Only by pressing some of your other pops into soldiery can you get a sudden new influx into the manpower pool. It seems pretty realistic to me, since if you are losing your soldiers you either have to call up more people into the army, losing their production, or survive upon the natural regrowth of your manpower pool.

Countries like China and Russia are going to be juggernauts simply because they have such a high population to draft into the army without having much impact upon their productivity. Every European or American called up was a potential industrial worker so your economy suffers. The same thing applies even more so today. Some nations are keen on extracting the maximum firepower from the minimum numbers of soldiers by spending billions on techjnology while other nations have armies of many millions.

Does anyone have the numbers from WWI, incidentally? It strikes me that, proportionally, the "lower-upper/upper-middle" classes - essentially the reasonably well-off, well-educated people who provided junior officer material - would suffer in even greater proportion; certainly that's the impression I've got with regards to the UK. Remeber all those estimates measuring the life-expectancy of a subaltern in, well, days...

That said, I'm sure many voluminous books have been published on this. I just don't happen to have any <g>

If that is possible it should also drastically increase the possibility of mutiny by the troops from unwanted cultures. If you use up the unwanted cultures you may have two enemies; your original enemy and mutinous troops.
