One of the inaccurate aspects of EU3 is representing the difficulty that temperate nations had difficulty settling tropical nations. Although this is represented to some extent it is not accurate to history in the sense it is not a serious obstacle to settling tropical provinces. In real life malaria was a very important factor in this outcome. Ultimately the discovery of quinine and mosquito transmission allowed Europeans to resolve this problem, although not until near the end of time period represented in EU3. Since there is no medical science stat in EU3 I use Production tech to represent ability organize an appropriate response to malaria.

Title –

Our colony has been struck by Roman Fever!

Description –

Illness has struck our colony. It is so devastating that there is a serious risk our colony will disappear. The natives seem immune but our colonists are dying daily.

Trigger –

Chance of occurring is about once every fifteen years
Nation’s capital is located in a non-tropical province.
Nation has a colony in a tropical province.

Text

(1) Send someone to organize a response.
(2) Quarantine the province!
(3) Pray for the best.

Options

(1) -1 Magistrate, (Production Tech level + 20)% that colony will experience -10% growth modifier for five years, (80 – Production Tech level)% that colony will experience -20% growth modifier for five years.
(2) Colony experiences -30% growth modifier for five years.
(3) Colony experiences -25% growth modifier for five years. 40% another randomly selected colony experiences -10% for five years.

Edit:

I think this would be an interesting way of making it more relevant to keep natives alive if it were somehow possible to add this option. I am not sure if it is possible based on the game.

Trigger -

(4) It will cost us but ask the natives for help. (Only possibly if there are more than 100 natives in the province).

Option -

(4) Lose 25 ducats, (100 - 10 x Native Hostility level)% that colony experiences a -10% growth modifier for five years, (100 - ((10 - x Native Hostility level) x 10))% colony experiences -25% growth modifier for five years and 40% another randomly selected colony experiences -10% for five years.

Trigger: Any five-star non-military advisor, monarchy government.

Option: "We need to show our independence." -5 prestige, advisor dies.
Option: "He's essential to the nation's government." -20 legitimacy.

I would also love to see an event chain dealing with infertility in the royal marriage. It's what caused the Church of England after all.

This one I really like. It emulates balancing by the AI. something the AI is horrible at. You can actually face a grand coalition trying to take you down!
Instead of the flawed "only declare war if infamy is over limit, but I don't give a rats ass if your big and threatening and have 100 regiments on my border but haven't conquered anyone for 30 years, so your infamy is low"-system

Disaster in the Dockyard

Trigger: Has at least 80% of the naval force limit.

My lord, there has been a terrible tragedy in your naval dockyard. A careless carpenter knocked over the candle he was using for light, and it set fire to a pile of wood shavings. The fire flared up out of control and spread throughout the ship, and even to others tied up alongside. I'm afraid there was nothing we could do.

Effect: 1-5 ships are destroyed.

IMO, there is no sufficient reason to start the religious wars. So we need some events to start a massive war in Europe.

1) Religious disunity in the HRE...
trigger: one state has not complied with religious unity request.
option #1: defenestrate the Emperor's representatives! Effect: relation with all protestant/reformed HRE states +200, alliance with all of them. +100 relations with >5 province protestant/reformed countries outside the HRE. Triggers an event to ally the HRE protestant states for them. -200 relation with the emperor, triggers an event for him to declare war on the heretic princes and their non HRE allies.
option #2: Wow! Wait, we didn't want this to get violent! Effect: -3 stab, -100 prestige, state religion becomes catholic again

2) Internal trouble in the HRE!
Trigger: Event 1) started. Is a >10 province state not affected by event 1) with relations of <50 with the emperor.
Option one: MUHAHAHA! I mean... Those poor protestants! Effect: Ally with the heretic princes. War with the Emperor.
Option two: That would be so unsportsmanlike! Effect: Relation with the Emperor +100

EDIT: Speaking of event started wars:

War of the x Succession:

Trigger: a >20 province state inherits another >20 province state. Is a >5 province state. Is on the same continent/region.
Option one: Such a monstrosity cannot be allowed! Effect: Relations with all other states picking option one +200. Alliance with all these states, declare war on the inheriting state. +20 prestige.
Option two. We cannot stand in the way of love! Effect: -20 prestige. -1 stability. relations with states picking option one -50. relation with the inheriting state +100

Title: The Royal bloodline

Trigger:
- Heir with low claims
- Legitimacy 45 or lower

Description: My King, your brother/cousin has laid claims on the throne since he doesn't accept your son as member of the royal bloodline. He claims he/she is a bastard and cant take over the throne. Of course is that just a lie my king, but a big part of the nobles is behind him on this, so what will you do my King?

Option:
#1 He calls my son/daughter a bastard, for that he will die! - A -2 stability drop, a pretender rises with a "royal name" with a lot of cavalry(nobles), but gives the heir medium claims instead and +40 legitimacy
#2 Well he's right, my son/daughter is a bastard - The "brother"/"cousin" will be the new heir with strong claims and +1 stability.
#3 The claims on the throne is a problem after my death... - When the present ruler dies the "brother"/"cousin" will rise as a pretender if he isn't dead (???) and a -2 stability drop.
