Paradox sales, lost profit?

Hey guys.
So I found a 25% offer on a website (greenman) and I'm wondering if they're taking a loss on their own profit margin or if the keys might've been acquired in dodgy ways.

I'd definitely buy it directly from Paradox if getting it from third party stores hurts the profit.

I'm curious if anyone knows the exact numbers of how much Paradox takes a loss when they sell it to third parties?

Computer games in general have close to zero marginal cost. The cost is in the development and support, which has essentially the same cost (for a given level of quality) regardless of the number of users. So, even if a site is selling the game for a considerably lower cost, Paradox is still making a profit on it. That's why you can have computer games on sale for 75% off, because the company is not directly losing money by doing so.

At the same time, of course, if they sell it for less, they are obviously making less profit than if they sell it for more. And, if they sell it for less than you're willing to pay for it, then they make less profit from you than they could have. Their ideal marketing strategy would be to sell the game to everyone for the maximum price that person is willing to pay. Of course, that isn't practical (because people want to pay as little as possible, in general), so they work around that by putting it on sale at lower prices with restricted availability (e.g. Steam sales), so that the people who want to pay less can do so, but they have to wait a bit before they can buy the game, or put a bit more effort into finding the lower price.

GMG is a legit site, but if you want to support Paradox to the maximum, then I would buy direct from their store.

Don't they take off the 20% British VAT? hence why its usually 20% cheaper than normal?

Ended up getting it from Paradoxplaza at full price. *shrugs* If I put half the time I've invested in Eu4 it'll be more than worth it.

I don't think it works that way. If it did, then every site selling games to British people would do so from overseas.

Pretty sure you can't legally not charge VAT anymore when selling to Europeans.

I think boardgames probably are cheaper in the very long term, thanks to lower electricity and internet bills.

Electricity and internet are both things I would be paying for even if I weren't gaming.

Board games require people to be in your house to play. They drink and eat your food and use your toilet water adding additional costs. Not to mention you'll have to social with them outside of gaming, which also is going to cost you.
