Good morning;

I have been playing and learning how to play HOI-4 for 5-6 weeks now and I enjoy some of it. Unfortunately there is a recurring issue that is pushing me quickly to uninstalling HOI - the way the AI deals with amphibious invasions and how allies forsake their own defense to send you divisions.

Something desperately needs to be done here. . .

Yesterday I was playing and had 25 German divisions invading Greece through the remains of Romania – so a traditional land invasion. I had taken 2/3’s of Greece when 15 Greek divisions landed in Holland. Surely the AI needs to realize that if the parent country is being invaded then the expeditionary forces need to return home, not attack on the other side of the continent.

I can’t tell how many times I have had to rebuff a sizable amphibious invasion along France’s west coast between Brest and Bordeaux from either the British Raj, Canada, the US, etc – how is that even possible?

This is causing me to expend 100+ divisions protecting the coast of Europe and an additional 40+ garrison divisions to quell resistance – that is half of the military capability for Germany. Historically France was garrisoned by only ten German divisions. . .

The other point that perturbs me, to the point of distraction, is that one moment Italy is trying to offer me 20 – 35 divisions and a week later Rome has fallen to the Allies.

There needs to be a better balance between Lend Lease and the AI ensuring their own country is adequately protected

It is getting to the point that I am losing the enjoyment value of HOI-4 because of the ludacrisy of the AI’s thinking, or not as the case may be.

I understand that this is a game and not a strategic simulator, but SOME adherence to realism would be nice.

Thank you;

John

Something is wacky with the Greek ai. I've seen them do invasions of Brazil and South East Asia... Their troops always seem to appear somewhere that isn't Greece.

Actually the needed 300k men to garrison, and the AI is being worked on heavily for the next patch.

I really wish Pdx would fix that, its been a irritating feature since launch. I find it lazy, its as if the AI just gives up, and relinquish all thinking and control to the human. If I am not asking for divisions, the AI should not offer them. The AI should protect itself first and foremost, but it should not hide its deficiencies in programming by incessantly offering me all its divisions, leaving it home/borders/front unprotected.

Once Romania offered me all its divisions, when it was at war with the USSR, leaving its whole border with the USSR unprotected. Whilst I playing as Italy. At that stage I haven't even joined the war with the USSR, as I did not have a border and was tied up in Africa, the Suez and Gibraltar. Wondering what the AI was thinking, I accepted the offer, however this caused Germany to be stretched thin, and the Soviets started to gain ground, so I joined the war, and managed to push the USSR back using Romania's own divisions.

Historically France was garrisoned by only ten German divisions. . .

Understand your frustration, but this bit is not correct. On 22nd June 1941 Germany had 38 divisions under OB West that were not scheduled for transfer to the East Front. They also had 10 occupation division level commands.

I see this all the time when i invade GB. When I have taken about 2/3 of the island they take most of their divisions and invade France. Funny part is this is usually the AI's most successful invasion throughout the game. My thoughts on why they are doing a navel invasion at this time is because they have some many divisions in so little space they reallocate them for other tasks since they don't need that many troops to defend the area they have.
