Yeah well the distances they would reatreat would be in the same province or one province over while pursuing them like you can in game would not be feasible, because there's more to army movement than just walking, like suply lines and so on.Shattered Retreat is inexcusable, I dont like seeing the enemy teleporting their units all the way up to Scotland when I win a battle in Cornwall.
If they just moved faster then normal but you could still surround or interrupt them in their retreat that would be great; it is incredibly a-historical and frustrating to have them enter god mode whenever they lose 10 percent of their numbers.
What they wanted to achieve with this retreat thing?
I got to say war has become a lot more fun these days. Most likely to prevent an army/faction from suffering utter defeat because they lost one fight.
It helped me once because the AI couldn't just move to the adjacent zone where my army retreated to and crush an already broken army that has no morale. IMO it just makes the first fights less overly decisive when is something I don't mind (even when I am crushing my foes).
Make shattered retreat optional and it would help alleviate the issue a lot of players have with it .
I can´t believe this thread is still active. How naive can one be to think that shattered retreat and pacts, which can now be considered core mechanics, will be removed from the game? Seriously?

Easy to mod turn it off ffs.
Mod it away never has been and never will be a good answer.
Maybe they can fix it by having retreated army lose soldiers while on retreat (due to i.e. deserting, bad conditions, what not)
After all it is shatered not organized retreat. Realistically I could see losing side retreat and regroup few provinces away, but in no way 100% of survivers. Maybe soldier loss during retreat can be linked to commander's traits (organizer, administrator lose less, higher martial, inspiring leader also lose less; etc).
OK, there I agree. While usually my armies retreated in near provinces, I had a case when my Lithuanian troops ended up in Central Sweden (via Finland). The issue people have with SR is not necessarily the soldier count, but that the armies get to essentially teleport to a place many counties away from where the original battle was. It's kind of unrealistic.
