Paradox seems to be in a trend of increasing the number of platforms. So i sincerely doubt they'd do for Epic Store exclusivity.

Yep, one year exclusivity. I find it particularly aggravating that they seem to think we are stupid, hiding the exclusivity behind early access.....
Not a surprise at all.I'm pretty sure the newer PDS games will follow the trend.Now we know why Paradox has dropped Linux support.
I’m going to make this as plain as I can make it. Paradox will lose me as a customer if this decision is not reversed.
I have supported this company since HOI 1. I own every major release and almost all DLC with the exception of Sekoru. I own a large number of their third party titles. The support of me and others like me are what helped this company to grow to where it is today.
I’ve supported your DLC policy because you were upfront in saying that this is what it took to support your games for such a long time. In my opinion, it was a situation that was beneficial to both customer and developer because we both got something out of the deal.
Now, you think you can go exclusive during early access, excluding customers like me from a process that we would like to be a Part of?
My entire catalog is on Steam, my damn profile links with Steam. I want the game on Steam. I don’t care that you don’t get as high of a percentage, you have thrived on the percentage you have been receiving from Steam releases for 10 years, and I have had a great user experience. Now, I’m expected to use a launcher with less features so you can get an additional 12% + whatever lump sum payment they gave you?
You changed the terms of the relationship, and now it is no longer going to be worth it for me to buy your games. I’ll spend those dollars on other companies who don’t support such practices.
Also, we are expected to go back to the Stone Age for mods? No workshop support to manage the 1000’s of mods that your games generate? I guess I am expected to scroll through pages of Forum posts again looking for interesting mods?
Enough ranting, I said what I had to say. Take what you will from it. I’ll wait a week before I start cancelling my preorders. I may pull the few mods I have on the workshop as well because I am not supporting this company if this is the route they are going.

They posted that this is only for early access and will be released across all platforms at the same time. But what is the bet that this "early access" period lasts for 1 year. It is obvious that it is an exclusivity deal in all but name.

It's exactly that,the "early access" was for avoiding the expected PR backslash.But happily,this has failed.
It's this which annoys me more than anything else, they think we're stupid and can't see what they're doing.
Basically this is a move to increase their profits, so their shareholders including TenCent can reap greater profits. It was inevitable ever since they went public, despite stating otherwise at the time. Paradox is becoming more corporate, more shareholder orientated rather than the smaller company that relied upon a strong relationship with it's fans to justify the large ongoing DLC costs for games. The old Paradox is slowly dying, I fully expect to see a newly launched GSG @ £49.99 in the next couple years, probably covered by the argument that the Imperator launch showed that they can no longer develop what the fans expect under a smaller budget.
The developers of Kerbal Space Program 2 understand the importance of a tight close knit community and how important that was to the success of the original game and have rightly stated their games will remain non exclusive. Given the similarities in the fanbase of that game and Paradox's, you'd think Paradox would take note.
Epic Games Store has no workshop, no achievements, requires another launcher, hell it doesn't even have a cart in it's god awful store. It benefits the consumer absolutely zero, it is a step down from what we currently get. This is a move entirely for the benefit of the company, it's not even a 50/50 benefit split where you can see some benefit to the customer. Given the amount of money that Paradox fans spend on their GSGs, especially the weaker DLCs, it can't be argued that Paradox need the greater split to survive or be moderately profitable. They already are quite profitable, I imagine the profit on Golden Century was rather nice, given the weak content it provided. Yet here we are.

Sorry, I have another thought - has Paradox ever done an early access release before? If I recall, they were staunchly against it in the past and refused to do it (for PDS titles at least)

According to the tease on YouTube, it's only early access that is exclusive to Epic Games Store.

Frederik Wester (Executive Chairman of the Board at Paradox Interactive) on Twitter three months ago (1.7 or so I think): "We're not planning to do any exclusives but jeez, show some understanding for those who do."
