You have a decent argument for Provence, but not Anjou.
Decent? The one for Provence is extremely good, mind you;)

As to Anjou and Main, indeed it's long since my ancestor ruled that part, but I still have a distant claim to it. But as you probably understand, Anjou is not my most urgent matter:p

You mean the other land you have a very distant claim to?

You should be going for Provence. About as many provs as Sicily, but you actually have a chance there, provided England keeps the pressure on France :)

Leaving Naples open for Sicilian conquest you mean? ;)

Provence is of course on the list, but I'm not gonna be a warmonger deluxe, although Charles didn't oppose war, to say the least...

Other land? I have a strong claim on Sicily, in theory King of Sicily not Naples... when you have taken the title "King of both Sicilies", I get that as a sign of aggression.

Not necessarily the case.

France's jurists are clever enough to know that the laws of France, including the decisions of the Estates-General and the parlement of Paris, are not the same as those of Naples... or Brittany. ;)

I'm getting there!

Burgundy also, maybe Bourbon. Any of the three. :)

Perhaps then you could reply to the lowly knight who has patiently waited in your court for more than a turn eh? ;)

Well, the Staufens never ruled over half of the kingdom. They ruled the entire thing until they were exterminated by Count Charles d'Anjou.

Fred claims to rule in his own right based on his descent from Margaret von Staufen, only legitimate daughter of Emperor Frederick II, and if people disagree, they can look at the fact that it's irrelevant in whose right he rules, since he could just as easily rule by marriage to the queen.

It's ironically similar to how you can still claim Sicily as you aren't descended from Joanna and don't claim to rule in her right, while Anjou can't claim it. :)

On the other hand, you have many more restrictions on you than Frederick does. According to the agreement between Martin IV and Charles, You can't be given any Papal or Imperial titles, or else you forfeit your throne. As you can see, Frederick has no such problem ;)

Yeah, Burgundy looks like a lot of fun. Especially since they truly have no loyalties ;)
Not true. Philippe le Hardi was very loyal to the French Crown, not in the least because he de facto ruled France during this era!

It increases your loyalty when you're actually ruling your nominal overlord from 1377-1386 and then from 1392 until your death. :p

When the rogue virtually attacks me through PMs to join him in France (though Burgundy was taken at the time :() then I am obliged to remind him of his lapses quite often :D

Besides, my count wont be rouge until he gets the nick from the French for fighting for them :D:D

The Anjou's ruled over all of it once, you know;). Staufens ruled that island not for that long was it (?) and the POPE wanted them out. Go figure...:p

As to claim: Charles should've been king in the first place. There were a civil war where Joanna asceded the throne, and killed Charles father. Charles revenged his father when killing Joanna, that's why he did it, afterall.

The Staufens ruled for nearly 100 years. The Anjous for 20.

There were between 3 and 6 (depending on if you count Henry VI, Henry VII or Manfred) Staufen Kings of the entire Sicily, while there was only one Anjou king ;)

Plus, Martin didn't really want Charles in specific. He just wanted *somebody* who was French and not a German. His first and second picks turned him down, so he asked Charles, whose elder brother, the King of France refused to allow him until Manfred stole the crown from Konrad.

He was a typical Frenchman Pope ;)

Charles was king of Naples and Sicily for more than a 100 years now... thought he isn't technically King of Sicily, he did have the Popes support in Sicily. The dude who invaded Sicily, some Aragonese King, was excommunicated.

Let's face it, Martin was a psychopath. He granted Aragon and Valencia to Charles de Valois because he was obsessed with France and hated everyone else.

Besides, Charles III is excommunicated by Avignon, the official church of Sicily, and therefore he cannot be king.

Also, Peter III of Aragon had captured both Charles I and Charles II of Naples, and three of Charles II's sons during the War of the Vespers, and some sources say they were forced under duress to surrender their claims before release.

Peter III was forgiven, Sicily was left alone, and the Valois never took over Aragon, nor the Angevins Sicily.

The claim will be decided on the battlefield. Angevin's won the throne from Staufen's by force, and will try to persue their tactic in Sicily...;):p perhaps
