Oh hell indeed! Well, that's all right, Urban doesn't particularly like females as monarchs (see how he treated Joanna of Naples), so its probably not too much a stretch for him to ignore the mother completely and proclaim her child King.

Not exactly, I have control of an offshoot of the Imperial Paleologus dynasty. This offshoot, who were the Margraves of Montferrat in Italy, also inherited a claim to Mallorca. What I do with the King of Mallorca isn't necessarily the policy of the Roman Empire.

The problem is, Byzantium was heavily fractured at this time period. There were actually 4 Emperors and two Despots, each of them independent. I figured - what the hell, if I'm going to have so many minor countries, might as well add another.

Depends on what you want to do and the grounds upon which you are to do it. Regardless the answer is through events, just remember that npcs are npcs no matter what, meaning that interacting with other played countries will be far more enjoyable.

As Canta said. Also, the Marquis of Montferrat has landed on Minorca, while Avignon's mercenaries control Majorca (and, presumably, Ibeza?). Montferrat moved independantly of the Roman Pope, he offered support later.

My entire claim on Gelre is based on the principle, my claim on Berg on the other hand comes from marrying the heiress of Berg. So perhaps someone would want to marry the Montferrats mother now to get the claim?

My case is probably even worse with that. Landlocked German minor who claims far away lands like Sicily, Naples, and Jerusalem.

We were ignored 100 years ago when we claimed them, and we will likely be ignored now, but we will keep our claims

You're best off trying to make an agreement with the other person in question I think. Such as me with Beograd. Physically it would lie within my 'Servia' province, yet Hungary owned now it till 1392, so Icarus and I are under the understanding that's its currently his.

Looking further, there is a whole host of minor counties and other fiefs that I either control or have claim on in the surrounding provinces, do I list them in my court, and RP for them accordingly?

One thing for instance is the secualr governance of Geneva, which I know is Avignon Papacy, but it surely has RP potential
