Guys. I've been dealing with a very annoying issue with this game for the past 3-4 weeks and the more I think about it the more I think this issue came about the same time 1.1.1c was installed and updated.
I keep getting crashing. The game will run fine but little things here and there cause the game to crash very consistently.

System Specs:

  • Asus 97a mobo
  • R9 290x Tri-X 4gb vram GPU
  • i5 3.5 ghz
  • 500gb SSD HDD
  • 1TB HDD
  • DVD/CDRW drive
  • 8gb RAM
  • Windows 10 (upgraded from retail copy of Windows 8.1)
  • Currently subscribed to 52 mods and 406 assets. I've turned them all off into ghost mode and removed any that had given me in game errors and still encounter the same issues.
  • Before 1.1.1c I had roughly 1000 assets that functioned without any of these issues reporting below:
1) Upon startup, Paradox load screen gets a sound stutter or repeated error sound in the splash screen - a CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK For a matter of 2-3 seconds as game loads. Happens each and every time I load the game. I did find the fewer assets I had, the length of time reduced.

2) Upon loading of the game everything works great. The game's load times - with my 458 assets load in around 60 seconds or so which are very insignificant and actually very fast compared to when I had 1000 assets loaded (again, longer load time but worked great each time with no serious issues).

3) In game, clicking "EXIT TO DESKTOP, EXIT TO MAIN MENU" - no matter which one I chose - will crash the game. This is the annoying part. Even hitting EXIT TO DESKTOP crashes the game as well. This happens when mods/assets are disabled or not. I've noticed though when all mods are disabled it sometimes works as intended and as it used to.
I really want to be able to just go back to the main menu rather the game crashing each and every time. It seems with mods or without them this is happening. Are others having this same issue?

I've been looking up forum posts all morning and nothing is very clear. There is a good guide of bug fixes but it doesn't seem to speak to any real solutions.

Thank you in advance for any one who can help! PS - really sorry I don't have my OUTPUT LOG file - I'll edit this post later and include that so maybe more information can be divulged. I've seen various people post this issue as I've researched this all morning but I have seen no ideas or concepts that could help fix or identify the issue.

Did all this happen before the win10 upgrade?

Did it all start at the same time?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Thank you @AndrewT for the response. Yes this was all occurring before the Windows 10 upgrade. I figured that doing the upgrade and performing a clean install on my machine alongside reinstalling Steam and C:S files would fix it. It did not unfortunately.

I did see in the meantime there could be a few mods I have that may be causing this. I also read in another post that it could be MAYBE Vsync is messing with me too but I can't see why this would be (I thought Vsync was syncing mouse etc. to monitor).

I will run that diagnostic when I get home in 1-2 hours and post that output log here ASAP. Thank you for offering to look at this issue - I really do appreciate it! :D

@AndrewT - thanks again. Here is the DXDIAG for you (attached in .txt format).

This is the error message I receive when exiting.

Here's a video of the sound stutter at startup at the Paradox Splash Screen for 5-6 seconds. Starts at 0:17 into the clip:

https://vid.me/5rlq

Here is what happens when I try to exit to the desktop view menu options. The first few seconds is me scrolling through showing all my assets deactivated as well as my mods deactivated. I have half the amount I used to before the patch and reducing to try and figure out what is causing the issue.

Thank you thank you thank you for any help. :D

EDIT:

Did a clean swipe of all my assets. Did not re-install but tried to go back "to main menu" and it worked. Almost certainly a mod of some sort is at play I believe. I'm going to slowly try and add mods and assets one by one to find the culprit (hopefully). I have no idea if it's a combination of assets/mods, one particular one (or several), or perhaps all of the above. I can't believe the number of assets I have loaded as of current (458 as it started to give me issues like this) is the reason...but I don't know, I'm just an idiot who shouldn't speak about those things. Thanks for any input you can give. I still want to figure this out and see what is at least asset/mod is causing the stuttering and erroring.

@objector. I cleared this issue but removing some assets that were clearly broken and causing the game to screw up. It's just that at first I wasn't aware it was an asset. After trying to reload most of my assets I noticed the errors went away. I then went thru my entire sub-list and tried to find the bad ones. Chances are it's actually broken mods/assets that is causing the behavior. I can link you the several that I found were the culprits. I know at least one seemed to be the problem for me FOR SURE.

Unfortuantely I had to slowly but surely go through each and every asset and test them until I got the errors to clear. I then had to go back and resub to the ones I just unsubbed to so I could recreate the error message and ensure it was that asset.

Basically I also found a lot of modders that are doing re-creations and cosmetic changes to assets are creating them wrong which could also add to the errors.
