im not "up" on WoD, im more of a Pathfinder person these days. but from what i remember/understand..

Old world went bang.. cataclym blah blah.. new world came about ? so having A and B in same time line but mutually exclusive is bad how ?

We have that right now. Books are being published for both Classic World of Darkness and New World of Darkness. People are worried about the possibility that they will revoke the license for both of these in favor of another World of Darkness. We have the best of both worlds right now, and are unhappy with the possibility of losing them for a mealy-mouthed compromise between the two developed by people who have no history with either of the lines. In comparison, the people at Onyx Path ARE those people from back in the day, and Rich Thomas has been there since the start.

or to word that on your example.. Eu and CK -DO- exist in the same "world" , history, but they dont overlap

im just not convinced that change = doom and gloom

Now imagine being told that both EU and CK were being discontinued for something different that incorporates both, being developed by different developers. You can understand why people might be a bit put off by that, right? It's that ugly combination of an implied threat to existing & ongoing work and an unfamiliar face taking charge that doesn't have any background with either IP.

They're not the same timeline at all. They're not related to one another at all. They're completely different, completely separate games with completely different, often mutually exclusive mechanics and characters. They have nothing to do with one another, apart from similar themes and concepts.

Your suggestion makes as much sense as saying that replacing Star Wars and Star Trek with a crossover of both would please fans of both series.

The general issue with the world of darkness fan base about this is their is not enough information besides a vague wording in a press release that sounds like they want to either combine the world of darknesses or abandon new world the less popular one.

Everyone wants them to be mutually exclusive but many people assume the wording means they will either forsake one or meld them.

Though I will be patient about this I'm trying to and make you understand where the other side is coming from.

As this combines my two major producers of leisure material, this is great news for me.

Let's not decide it's doom for Onyx Path or for NWoD based on some very vague statements, shall we? It would seem a very odd way for Paradox to behave to torch fandom and the game lines it's buying by killing off the experienced teams that have produced such good stuff, especially as it would involve alienating pretty much everyone who understands how to write what makes either World of Darkness tick (I'm a NWoD man myself, for the record).

I think it vanishingly unlikely that Paradox don't have tabletop gamers in their ranks already who play WoD games and who will be personally invested in getting it right, judging by all the statements they've made in the past. This is a geek-friendly, responsive company who take pride in interacting with fans properly. Paradox's history suggests White Wolf have been bought by a company that wants to produce White Wolf products of all kinds.

Let's all sit back a little, be respectful of everyone and give Paradox the space to give us some more insight before declaring them monsters.

If they kill the NWoD, obviously, I'll be handing out torches and pitchforks, but let's not go there.

Anyway, it's Paradox. What's wrong with a little Paradox if you're a Mage player?

Just for balance, I ran an OWoD Mage campaign (if we really want an argument, let's have a discussion on The Role of The Observer In Vulgar Magic.....), and we switched to NWoD quite early in the line.

We never looked back. I bought the 20 stuff for old time's sake but there's no danger of my ever running it.

Do run Pathfinder as well, though. Cracking system that. Obsidian are working on a PACG project, of course. Be nice if they really did work on both systems.

Right we should probably just wait until their is an official announcement and stop arguing about it on the thread, just many people are filled with uncertainty so it can lead to frustration without an answer.

Most people like the status quo because its that. Never changing. So even thought Paradox definitely has a better reputation then CCP, people got the same World of Darkness they liked with CCP and now they are afraid that it will change for the worse. Most of it is paranoia and most of the destractors know it, but it wouldn't be the first time the world of darkness fanbase got spurned by a video game company.

Sorry, should have said. WW found that the OWoD ran into a very simple problem, If the game lines are built around the premise that the End Times are coming, then eventually the End Times have to come or the looming horror of the setting becomes the ongoing anti-climax. So they took the ballsy decision to actually do Gehenna/Apocalypse/Ascension.

As you can tell I do not play Paradox games but have wandered over here because I heard the news.

Paradox has stated they want to hear from the fans, here goes.

LEAVE ONYX PATH ALONE

They have been doing a fine job. They know what they're doing. In my opinion, here is what Paradox should do.

1. Let Onyx Path handle all of the pen & paper side. Maybe give them the resources to have the books in stores again.

or

2. If that's just not your vision, hire everyone from Onyx Path to run the tabletop division.

If Paradox starts gutting things and moves away from the vision that Onyx Path already has, Paradox will have a lot of unhappy fans.

Also, the sooner you tell us how this is going to work the better. Speculation will only breed contempt. Just figure it out.

I do want to bring this up because, the main reason is that it isn't resources as to why onyx path books aren't really in stores, it is that isn't profitable for the most part unless you are dnd or maybe pathfinder. FLGS may have a few, but OPP's model has been digital via drivethrurpg which has worked out IMO rather well.

Judging by Twitter, Rich Thomas has known about this for a while (he started following Paradox a few weeks back) and seems optimistic. I know it's only 140 chars, but it doesn't look like he's worried.

I don't think there is any need to worry. I have faith Paradox will make a good, solid choice, whatever that is. They are far from what most studios act like. Easily my favorite company, and I have a very large library of what I like to play.

This news got me so excited!

I really really hope some great games come to fruition from this.

I'd love to see a Werewolf game, hell why not have an epic rpg (like Vampire: TMB) but have it encompass both Werewolf AND vampire: TM? Where you can play as either side with interwoven storylines that are affected by who you are and the choices you make throughout the game?

I'd love to see that.

Great news about Paradox and White-Wolf . My concern is tho how they will do the game / games or how they will handle the licensing. Will you be able to play as more then just a vampire in an upcoming game?. So manny questions. ““We’re going to start licensing out the brand again from the beginning,” can be good but also abit worrying

I hope the IP will be open to other game designers (cough, cough CD PROJEKT cough) so there will be plenty of WOD games coming out. What I would kill for is another Vampire the masquerade bloodlines, that game was amazing and was a perfect blend of RPG and FPS that I have YET to see anybody reproduce. It actually felt like the WOD universe you could visit. I am really happy someone outside CCP got the license..

If you look at the press release, they specifically name Old World of Darkness properties: Vampire the Masquerade, and Werewolf the Apocalypse, but none of the New World of Darkness games.

...I. I had previously thought this would have been the best way, but I never dared to dream that this would ever, EVER happen.

And now it has. My year is much better for it. I am much happier today.

The moral of the lesson is dare to dream, kiddos. Sometimes, your faith is rewarded.

EDIT - also mind giving the guys at Project Vaulderie ( https://www.facebook.com/projectvaulderie ) another look over or even chance to resume? They were sent a Cease and Desist by CCP's legal team, even though CCP had done nothing with Bloodlines, and you'd have needed an original copy of VtMB to play. Bloodlines is broken as it is, let alone for mods, and fixes only come around because Wesp is an insane man dedicated to maintaining the nigh mandatory unofficial patch.

Feels good to be back.
