Cool, I love this game and the studio who made it. Seeing them with PDX's patronage promises the best.

I don't share your optimism - PDX has a somewhat... "questionable" record of patronage so far.

And yes, I do in part mean Magna Mundi and East vs West.

Paradox acquiring Prison Architect is an interesting development. It was pretty obvious Introvision really felt done with PA and wanted to move on to other things, but it kept overshadowing newer projects like Scanner Sombre. Now they can move on without abandoning the community and likely get a nice cash boost for their next project, while Paradox gets a new brand that fits well with their portfolio. It'll be interesting to see what comes out of both companies from this.

Hard at work watching prison escape movies?

It's a hard life, isn't it?

Is there going to be a forum page for this game now?

I know right? And then to make things harder, I have to play Prison Architect at work ;)

Not asking for specifics, but "Architect IP" means that Paradox is considering using this IP to make other types of architect games, correct?

Yep! Open to suggestions too

My biggest concern is (as I've said before) DLC.

Magicka - $7.99 with $41.17 of DLC

And this is just getting it started!

Surviving Mars - £26.99-£52.99 with £57.05 of DLC

Cities: Skylines - £22.99-£29.99 with £105.84 of DLC

Stellaris - £34.99-£52.99 with $114.00 of DlC

I could go on but I think I've made my point.

You conveniently leave out the fact that the base game and most DLC are drastically cut down in price by sales. Cities, for example, is often times at 75% - 80% off. So I really feel like you're taking a very hostile approach to your math here. However, I appreciate you voicing your concern and hope that you'll work with us to make our DLC feel like it's worth the money =)

I think part of what is so cool about Paradox owning IP in different genres is the potential for crossovers. For example, I think in one episode of the Paradox Podcast we heard about an idea to make a starbase management game. Crossing over the architect IP with other established IPs could be very interesting.

Starbase architect could have a really interesting survival aspect, managing resources so the astronauts can survive in space. Castle architect could feature special characters that utilize the environment in interesting ways, maybe even sending out armies for raiding or wars.

I would love to see this done right. Double Fine's abandoned Spacebase DF-9 had such potential if they had only finished it.

Hospital Architect (haven´t seen a really good successor to theme hospital) and Spacebase architect are my first thoughts.

Second thought is a bit more complex - a "Fantasy pirate harbor architect" - manage a harbor with facilities that drag the treasures towards you. It would need "some" elements that maybe the US market ain´t to happy about. At least I can´t think about such a harbor without much alcohol, gambling and prostitution.

I'd love to see some new form of "architect" game. I dig building/management games, but the prison theme leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Prisons are a for-profit form of slavery in my country, so a game about them doesn't feel fun.

Now, a sci-fi themed prison game could be a hoot, especially something like an alien zoo full of humans.

Two Point is great and all, but also a bit shallow. Prison Architect is a lot more complex than Two Point, and I think that's one of the reasons it's a great fit for Paradox.

In my opinion it's the best management style game I have ever played. I hope Paradox can do it justice.

I don't share your optimism - PDX has a somewhat... "questionable" record of patronage so far.

And yes, I do in part mean Magna Mundi and East vs West.

I respect your opinion.
Nevertheless, and even if I am still very disappointed about games like East vs. West, there are positive examples of pdx's patronage. One may disagree because of the dlc policy (call me cash cow if it pleases you but I like this system), but if you look at Magicka, Surviving Mars, Cities Skylines, Shadowrun (and Battletech lately), Tyranny and Pillars, etc... Whether it is a one shot publishing or an entire studio patronage, I see a lot of positive things in the recent past (I said positive, not flawless^^).

Of course you are right to be careful, it is always good to have some "phronesis" in mind, and I would definitely be wiser to not get so easily hyped.
Will all my respect, and I am sure you would agree : may the future prove you wrong. :D

Cities: Skylines - £22.99-£29.99 with £105.84 of DLC

Stellaris - £34.99-£52.99 with $114.00 of DlC

I could go on but I think I've made my point.

No, you made no point.

What is the problem?

all of these DLCs came out long time after the base game and you don´t need them to play the base game. if you don´t want to spend money on Stellaris, because you don´t like the base game, you don´t need to buy the DLC. if you liked stellaris, you may spend 30 bucks each year to play robots and other things that are not in the base game

and I don´t get where you found the prices for the DLCs. "£57.05 of DLC" for surviving mars? In Germany (and Austria) I can have the Season Pass for € 34,99 and the Season pass has all gameplay relevant DLCs in it and the unreleased "Green Planet". Green Planet doesn´t have a release date or a dev diary at the moment. How do you spend 57,05 on Surviving Mars DLCs???

You made no point. You only talk BS.

I've played Prison Architect on and off since somewhere around 2012, I've seen how this game evolved from it's very basic idea into a fully fledged system, knowing Paradox Interactive publishing policy I'm reassured that if they don't decide to kill PA1 in favor of another game based on the principle, they will continue developing and evolving the game, my concerns are mainly in the way the development process is fragmented, as we know from other titles published by the company.

I will await a more detailed development plan announcement of the IP rather than sift through generic public relations press releases.

I loved PA but stopped playing because of frustrations with some little details that would have made all the difference. Like prison guards not overindulgently agreeing to take a prisoner to a different cell block for his shower when he had a perfectly good shower in his own block. What real life officer would put up with that? And it stopped them doing other stuff they were meant to. I could have done with some of the later gimmicks like rope ladders if they'd spent a little more time on the basic control of prisoner movement, which is after all at the heart of all prisons.
