Finding out that paradox has purchased 20% of the company that owns the conan name has really upset me. Here we have paradox with enough money to buy into a major name in fantasy fiction yet doesnt have the monewy to finish the game HOI before releasing it.

This is further "proof" that the taste of success has turned perhaps the best company in the business into just another company that simply realease and fixes its game and to hell with initial quality. There is no excuse for creating the game that you get out of the box.

There are sooo many things wrong with the game.

ships never miss each other sea provinces even in storms
air units still intercept v2 rocket even in 1.02
ship combat bares nothing like real life
subs can not hide from a pure capital ship fleet
ftrs have not tac value when they where the primary tank killers in the western front
the typhoon was the greatest allied tank killer with its rockets
there is not trade (the world market is a farse)
the pasific threater is a JOKe troops can walk across hundreds of miles of ocean from ilands to islands

this list is no where near complete and there seems to be little remorse from paradox for cheating us. cheating us? yes cheating us. The featues on the box are not what we get and there seems no plans to make these features avalible in the future. Yet they have the bloody money to buy companies. Seems paradox has become just another mediocer software producer.

Maybe you should bother reading bugfixes and other information before complaining in the future since some of your issues have already been confirmed as fixed for the next patch.:rolleyes:

Conan investment

I rarely comment on speculation but this was something I have to put right.

Paradox has two companies, one is the interactive and one is the entertainment company. Both have separate funding streams and totally different strategies.

The Conan purchase was not funded by the interactive games division. It could of course elevate our position to attract more powerful distribution in the future for our interactive games.

FYI, each game has a development budget which is in relation to the estimated sales of the game. Our games are incredibly complex to make with the resources we can devote to them. We have to finance the development all the way until delivery and then the publishers usally pay us royalties depending on the sales volume. One way to grow the audience is to support the games with updates post release, something most studios get paid for but we do not.

We have a long term strategy to grow the audience for our games so that we can increase the development time and budget. I think many people do not understand the business of computer games. To compare our titles with teams supported by budgets up to three times higher is as unfair as comparing historical documentaries on History Channel with huge studio productions such as Pearl Harbor. Sorry, but that is how it is. If you like Art film, you have to judge it as that. The fact of the matter is, you go to a movie theater to see an art film, you pay as much or more as you will for a ticket to se Pearl Harbor. Why do people still watch Art Films? Because they offer an alternative?

Rest assured that we will continue supporting our games as long as we have an audience. Rest assured that we also listen to all valid and constructive criticism. But please do not make unfair comparisons between our productions and others.

Somehow I don't think it was lack of cash that decided the release date for HOI... Perhaps you should discuss release timing with Strategy First instead.

Then why don't you set a higher price for those complex game if they cost more to make ? I would mind paying 200 $/€ for a game of EU2 quality that gave (and is still giving) me hundreds of hours of gameplay. But on the other I dislike paying for a game that goes on the shelf after a couple of days.

You are maybe ready to pay 200 $, but less "niche" and casual gamers are not. I certainly wouldn't.

The basic idea that Thanak proposes (deeper game => higher price) is sound, while I agree that paying more at the retail point based on faith is a bit off (and probably only helps the retailer anyway) there is something to be said for a subscriber model. If enough people are willing to pay a subscription direct to Paradox to keep feature enhancements coming then this could be viable.

Hey be quiet! Don't go giving them any ideas. While I agree that EU2 is one of the greatest games I have ever played (X-Com won me over years ago) and certainly worth a higher price the fact is I paid a standard price and made a great investment.

I think it is about time developers use the internet sales tool and cut out these bloodsucking retailers. I would be more than happy to purchase directly from Paradox so that developers get the lion share of the sale, since they did the lion's share of the work. ( I am a programmer so I understand how much work goes into software development) I think it is high time for a different sales paradigm. I believe it would eliminate many problems associated with publishers pushing the developers to release unfinished products. I will be blunt to all those that complain about problems with this product. Stop blaming the developers and blame those actually responsible - THE PUBLISHERS AND RETAILORS!
