Paradox games do not work with windows 8!

Hi,

I have tried a lot of diferent things, and non has worked. I am tired of looking into posts saying paradox games work on windows 8. That is not my experience!!!

I tried mostly with EU3 and CK2. The first will not even open (it hangs on start) and the second will generaly crash after some 5 minutes of play!!!!!

Sorry you're having problems. But i can vouch that they work with Windows 8.

Have you tried running them as administrator ?

Fine, but your experience is not necessarily the general experience. It would be true to say they won't run on your Win8 machine, but not true to say that it won't run on Win8 at all.

For the record, 95% of "win8" problems I've seen have turned out to be video drivers. Update yours to the latest available.

Then you should post in the Tech Support forum of one of the games you are having problems with, and we'll try to help you.Of your games I do Rome, EU3 and CK2, FYI.

I don't have win8 myself but my brother does and he can run CK2 just fine. (His is a Steam copy fwiw)

Hearts of Iron 3, Victoria 2 and Crusader Kings 2 work perfectly for me. Europa Universalis 3 is really choppy. I wish I could upgrade my video drivers, but there is no offical way to go about it with my graphics card as its a AMD/Intel switchable and I depend on my manufacturer to release drivers (they don't bother).

edit: Actually tried running EU3 in Administrator, that got it working perfectly.

Tried but it did not work either.

Cant "run as administrator" with either the eu3game.exe or the eu3 link in the directory, as it says d3dx9_41.dll is missing on the computer. I have steam version and cant seem to get it to run.

When trying to run it from inside steam, nothing happens, however, at installation there, it said that i had a newer version of dx and didnt need to install dx9
=)


Anyone have any ideas?

Edit : cant seem to register EU3 chronicles steam keys with game here on forum, so no Tech support forum available for me.
(got 3 keys when buying chronicles from steam, and tried register option with all Three and the different eu3 packs to no avail),

It is always wise to post a dxdiag - many issues can be solved by going through that.

press "windowsbutton + r"
type "dxdiag" and press enter
press button "save information"
save to a fitting location and post .txt file in a post in tech support page

BTW: I can play "all" (have not tried each and every one) paradox games on Win 8 x64

You shoudl also register HttT and DW here. for a sart that gives me an accurate picture of what you have, but it also allows you access to the 5.2 beta patch forum.
