I played my first AOW game and it has made the game much more interesting; AOW is the best expansion/DLC I've ever seen from Paradox. Rebels are finally something that you have to worry about. Although this is my first play, I've never had any problems with rebels with an OPM I grew into an empire.

I don't understand why some people complain it's unstoppable. Do those people

1. even think about raising autonomy?
2. not want to spend MP on rebel suppression?
3. not want rebels to be more than nuisance?

Seriously, don't tone down rebels. I would personally rather see it become more powerful just upto the point that a stable country's AI can handle it. Strong rebels also help to shape borders in more historical fashion because provinces tend to defect to the original owner.

People have a serious problem with their play style if they can't handle something that AI can deal with.

Played a Korea campaign just now, got crippled by rebels. This never happens when I play western nations.
Rebels rebelled in provinces with 60+ autonomy, 2x my manpower.


Rebels needs work.

There are certain rebel situations that need fixing. For example, the fact that religious rebels who can't convert you can't be surrendered to at all. Also, the fact that several types of rebels cause a permanent increase in Local Autonomy breaks a lot of AI nations, especially Ming.

That being said, the new rebel system is a huge improvement over the old one, and it just needs tweaking rather than wholesale changes.

People have a serious problem with their playstyle if they can't handle something that AI can deal with.
The point is they can't. Rebels are nothing for a player, but AI Ottomans are constantly getting wrecked by them.

BTW, I don't want regular rebels to be more than a nuisance. Why whould they be?

What I really hate about the current system is this :

You can get the red flag warning that some rebels are 90%, lets say its Bohemian, but when you look at said provinces they have 0% rebellion. It also makes the unrest map worthless.

Yeah, I don't have trouble with most rebels, since I know when they are going to rise up and I'm ready for them.

Rebels needs work.

I am also playing a Korean campaign after my OPM run in Europe finished. I integrated western half of Japan and soutern Manchuria by early 1500s and have no problem with rebels.

Why do you even let rebels rise up when you can simply spend MP to suppress it? You can't do everything at once. You either accept slowdown of MIL tech or fight rebels.

EU4 previously was a game with absolutely no setbacks. If you knew how to play well enough, you couldn't lose a province for 400 years. Strong rebels has added a huge strategic depth to the game.

Agreed.

I haven't played enough to see every bits and pieces. I however think this is a HUGE improvement to the older system, both in mechanism and rebel strength.

But I believe we all saw numerous complaining posts that *they* can't handle rebels with screenshots of their country overrun by rebels? I assumed that AIs don't upload screenshots.

Done that for you refresh your page and you will see my edited post. BTW its not my pic but from a guy who freaked out while he saw it.

I agree that me and you can handle it but the AI most of the time cant, and the magnitude,rate,numbers and equipment they spawn are illogical, and the conditions some of the time too.

Wouldn't that be the point of over extension? Austro-Hungarian Empire historically had to spend masssive MP on regions they already conquered a hundred of years ago and found it difficult to just stay together. Rebels did happen in history; with the conditions you listsed, unrest builds slowly, so you can crush them once in a while.

Historically also they didn't spawn out of thin air, with triple the provincial man power and high end weapons.

Not OE in game term. OE as in having conquered foreign provinces in the past.
How many times should the AI be forced to pay for it? Till the end of the time?

Rebels that are only a nuisance are not worth representing in the game.
