I hate the Republic DLC and what it has done to the game.
This is not about whether I like or dislike Republics or if I want or don’t want to play as one. I don’t, that is why I did not buy the DLC. The same way I did not buy the looney invasion DLC.
This is how Paradox chose to implement this DLC in a way that actually makes me, has a client, feel cheated. The reason being the game I originally bought from them, along with a ton of DLC, is now a different game because they altered it. This is like signing a contract with a network provider, buying their equipment and service and then once that is done they go and change the terms of service. Or any other product/service where the company changes the terms after you buy it in a way that damages you.
I bought a strategy game about medieval feudal kingdoms what I have now is “Medieval Corporations II”.
Since the DLC came out I had a game where Francia which also included the British Isles became a merchant Republic??? In two more games the merchant republics always conquer huge amounts of land in North Africa and other Muslim territories along with counties all over the Mediterranean. Republics with Holy War CB, LOL?
I cannot play the Feudal game now when vast areas of the map are Republics. No marriage strategies, plotting, backstabbing, I cannot interact with a large part of the map now because I am a feudal lord. What makes this bad is I did not buy the DLC because I don’t want the Republic gameplay but I still got it in there and now it has taken my joy of playing the game.
Paradox, please, make all DLC that fundamentally changes game mechanics truly OPTIONAL. Is there really such a great multiplayer community that justifies changing the game to accommodate different owners of DLCs? Out of, who knows, 500,000 copies sold there are maybe 50 people playing multiplayer!
I hope some modder finds a way to disable Republics altogether.
PS: I have a Steam copy like the MAJORITY of people that bought the game so dont say anything about rollbacks.
