The addition of Great Women in History to the game doesn't detract from the Great Men in History who are already represented. Mentioning Catherine the Great doesn't cancel out Peter the Great, noticing Ching Shih doesn't mean you have to ignore Hayreddin Barbarossa.

From what I can gather, they're from a variety of sources. Most are likely to be European, but Hürrem Sultana and Zhèng Shì are both confirmed featured.

That does not say anything about which portraits are they going to use. E.g. currently Mesoamerican theologians are portrayed as Christian monks.

History doesn't represent "facts and reality". If you believe so, I think you're mistaken... There's a reason debates are commonplace about history subjects: because people can't agree on everything, because history is simply more than facts, it's also about how these facts are woven together in a narrative.

History is never completly objective but epistemologically it HAS to have this objective. If not, we are in the field of fiction or militantism.

That's why in France students get to know about Olympe de Gouge, who was an interesting but minor figure of the Revolution, but they barely are told about major figures like Robespierre or even Napoleon, that really shaped history. That is biased history.

You can't at the same time say that white men used to run things in the past, AND that historical studies are male-biased.

This *should* have been just lumped in the base game with 1.11 so that everyone gets it, but I can see how it makes sense to release it as a free DLC and publicise it accordingly.

If you've got El Dorado, there are unique Meso-American advisor portraits.

I bet the WiH DLC uses western portraits though.

What are you on about? I was taught a lot more about Napoleon and Robespierre than I was about Olympe de Gouges.

I don't remember that many specific characters and events for kings, male advisors etc. Because we play as nations - isn't that the whole point of EUIV? So what kind of a double standard is that?
The next men's day is the 19th November. I hope to see specific events and male characters.

You know very well why - it's the same reason why Women's Day is something that far more people care about than Men's Day; history has traditionally been written by men about a world dominated by men - women have had less opportunity to influence history and those that did have often had their accomplishments diminished by those writing about them.
It's the same reason why everyone rolls their eyes when people say "well why aren't there Straight Pride marches huh? Wouldn't that be more equal since you're always going on about equality?" Straight people are not generally marginalised for being straight. Men are not generally marginalised for being men. You can find exceptions I'm sure, and there are absolutely occasions where people are discriminated against for being a part of *whatever* group, but when we're talking about the broad strokes of history, men do not need to be actively highlighted because the traditional historical narrative already does that.
