No need. Men are not underrepresented in EU4; the game is full of them.

I'm mildly disappointed that this is being marked as a separate DLC, mind you.
We actually had not that small forum thread prior to the release of EU III, behold:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?359997-Do-we-need-female-advisors

And a dev comment in there:

/me drags goalpost

The examples that can be found are few (VERY few) and far (very far) between.
They are there, no denying that, but the vast majority of whom we might call 'advisors' were male.

The second is: are they so noteworthy because they were so skilled (compared to others - it's not like a lot of well-known MALE advisors weren't skipped) or mainly because they were females in a male-dominated world?

In the end, the amount of coding that such a marginal improvement would cost was better spent (IMO) fixing/changing more important parts of gameplay.

In the end, it's really a matter of "what's in a name" where it concerns advisors.

Men are represented just enough. The same goes for women - queens, advisors etc. Again - it's not about representations, it's about PI being coherent about their claims and strategies. They support 'gender equality', then make specific events for everyone.

Totally agreed, about a separate DLC.

This! Thank you. It's frustrating to see the PI forums going very slowly, but surely down the road of SJ. If there were so few women - why not just make events for them right away. But apparently there were so lot of them that they need an entire dlc for that.
Hey, at least we've got a Cardinal Richelieu event.
Quit it with your whiny narrative. This can be turned on its head to work in favor of ultra feminists as well. The fact that they release a DLC is a testimony that women weren't important enough to be included in the base game. They also warrant an optional DLC (so as to not anger the white males that clearly dominate the game's audience) and are of course singled out with this piece of content.

^ For the witless, this isn't my opinion, just a case in point that you can make anything say whatever you want, it has no inherent meaning. Just accept the damn free stuff and go bother some other people.

I believe March is actually women's history month at least in the U.S.

Is there like an Asian History Month or something? Because I'd really like to see Japan in particular get some extra (free) attention.

Thanks Paradox! This should help me learn more about an area of history that I have not paid enough attention to.

Wow, this thread went downhill really fast. Instead of appreciating free content offered by Paradox, people are arguing about ideological issues, with name-calling and everything.

I despise third-wave feminism as much as any other rational person but this FREE DLC is great news, in a game that lacks quite a lot of flavor and events and this DLC adds just that.

As a bonus, it's OPTIONAL even though it could have been included in the base game, because not everyone appreciates more females in this game.

So, despite Paradox catering to both females and people who don't want to see females in their game, STILL there are people who complain that there are not enough men-only events?

Do these people actually bothered browsing the event folder in the game? The events are overwhelmingly male-biased (nothing wrong with that either, historical reality is unfair after our postmodern standards) and they still want MORE male-driven events?

Humanity still has a long way to go when it comes to logic and rationality...

Anyway thanks Paradox for this birthday gift, it was unexpected and welcome.

As far as I can see, only one person is really complaining about it and everyone else is making fun of him for it.

I counted two but I'm hoping my vision is bad because there's no way more people get on the free DLC hating bandwagon, it's unreal what I'm reading, looks like some users love to crush my dreams of a better society, at least in this small part that are the Paradox forums.

In honor of this thread I think Paradox should make this DLC not optional, but mandatory.

Then it wouldnt be a DLC it would be part of the patch. Besides, it can't be. You could still delete the files.

But it makes more sense as a DLC anyway. Anybody who dont want it can simply uncheck it from the list, everyone gets what they want.

Don't you see the contradiction here ? you say that the events are overwhelmingly male-biased, then you say they represent correctly the historical reality that is "unfair" !? What does that even mean ? history is not supposed to be "fair", it is supposed to represent facts and reality. Reality has no "bias".

My only complaint is as I previously stated. So long as these are historically accurate women, then great. But they should have been included with the game originally or just simply added. Not in celebration of some politically correct form of a holiday.

Does it honestly matter? I mean, Paradox is giving people extra flavour and content for free: more content is good content. Saying or implying (as some others have) that this DLC is in some way sexist is like saying that Conquest of Paradise is racist because it only deals with America.

History doesn't represent "facts and reality". If you believe so, I think you're mistaken... There's a reason debates are commonplace about history subjects: because people can't agree on everything, because history is simply more than facts, it's also about how these facts are woven together in a narrative.

Are the female portraits only for the European ones, or are there also Native/Arab/Mesoamerican female portraits?
