To clarify, I mean someone who has gone blind naturally (as a negative health trait) as opposed to the Byzantine practice of being blinded as a form of punishment. The two would be mutually exclusive, and anyone could go blind whereas being blinded would still be exclusive to the Byzantines.

So, this is what we have now:

Code:
blinded = {
	sex_appeal_opinion = -10
	martial = -6
	stewardship = -2
	intrigue = -2
	health = -1

	customizer = no

	blinding = yes
}

And then we could have this:

Code:
blind = {
	sex_appeal_opinion = -10
	vassal_opinion = 10
	martial = -4
	stewardship = -2
	intrigue = -2
	learning = 1
	health = -1
	fertility = -0.2
}

I'm sure people can think of better stat modifiers than I have here, but it's just to give you an idea of what I had in mind. The positive vassal opinion is intentional, as it represents a blind liege being considered venerable. It's just a small balance thing really. I haven't used the 'blinding = yes' line here (which I assume is what removes the eyes from the portrait) for obvious reasons.

There are characters who should be made blind in the history files (such as John of Bohemia) and there's already a 'the Blind' nickname, so this trait being tied to that name would make sense.

It would need a new icon and an event or two, but I think it's worth adding.

Would there be any interest among other forumites? :)

I like it. Why the increase in fertility though? And the decrease in health should probably be removed, since the reason I think blinded reduces health is because of the actual process of blinding.

It'd be kinda cool to have it give +1 to learning as well, to represent the ways the blind can/do learn to use their senses differently.

Actually, blind people are statistically more likely to accidentally impale themselves on a courtier's lance at a joust and die of infection than people who are not blind. A small decrease in health would probably reflect the slightly elevated risk of injury or disease that results from not being able to see what's going on around you in a hostile world.

The fertility thing is a mistake, I forgot to make it minus. I'll fix that.

The -1 health is just to represent general accidents which being blind is going to give an increased likelihood of. I think it makes sense, and it doesn't make you hugely more prone to dying.

I like the +1 for learning, so I'll add that.

I would support that.

The only issue adding in blind characters right now is that the current blind portrait art doesn't make them seem like their naturally blind, but I'm hopeful PI can add in something interesting if they wanted to.

Agreed, which is why I've left it out. There's no use in representing naturally blind people as having their eyes literally gauged out. :D

I think that would be a great idea to have a blind trait, while of course it's something we can mod ourselves.

Still, not only Byzantines were actually able to blind or castrate prisoners. Check how Bohemian prince "took care" of Mieszko II of Poland, or what had Bolesław III Wrymouth done with his brother Zbigniew. That's why I'd like to see those decisions expanded, or at least expandable (by mods) as well.

The -1 on health I'm a bit unsure about, but your arguement about increasced accidental death makes sense.
Yeah, as I say this is just my opinion on what a 'blind' trait would give. Paradox or other users (such as yourself) may think differently; clearly there are examples of historical people who were blind for decades before they died, but there's still going to be an increased risk of death as a result of having no visual concept of what's around you. Perhaps the lower intrigue stat could cover that, though? I'm not too fussed either way, though I do think it'd be good to have a -1 health and then have being blinded upped to -2 at the very least. From what I've read, people rarely tended to live very long after being blinded in the Byzantine fashion...
