Paradox and Obsidian partner up for Pillars of Eternity

They did that because of pressure from the publisher. One of the reason for kickstarter campaign for this game is countermeasure against a similar scenario.

Well instead of limited time they now have limited funding so I don't know I guess we shall see how this turns out.
I liked New Vegas a lot though.

I have to admit that much as I've loved Black Isle and Obsidian games, many of them have suffered from very buggy releases...Fallout 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2. You can attribute one game to publisher pressure to release, but I fear it is a bit of a pattern. On the other hand, I think I prefer a release that is a mess but becomes a great game with a few patches to a game that's rushed out and works but is just plain mediocre like Dragon Age 2.

I don't get this. Didn't Obsedian do POE with a kickstarter to avoid Publisher's pressure? If Paradox becomes the publisher and provides finantial support, would Paradox have say on the development of the game?

What if Paradox goes out of sense and cancels this project like they did with MM an EvW if the development is delayed?

Then Obsidian can find another publisher. It's their project. Paradox doesn't own the engine or anything and couldn't force Obsidian to stop working on it.

FWIW, it doesn't appear to me that Paradox has a say in development or is providing direct monetary support; they are taking over publishing responsibilities so Obsidian has fewer non-development responsibilities (and expenses). But of course there are people who posted in this thread who know the deal better than I.

They can't cancel the project. They are not Publishers in the regular sense. They don't finance it (only sime Paradox members are backers and so they have influence on the game). Paradox job as publisher of PoE is just about marketing. Obsidian want to focus on develop the game. They don't want to take to much time with marketing. So they use Paradox for the marketing, shipping etc. Read the FAQs.

Obsidian don't take money from Paradox on the contrary, Obsidian will pay for Paradox's marketing services.

The steam version of CK don't had any DRM. You just need steam to install and patch the game. You can play it without steam too.

I don't know about CK2 but this is not really true for EU4.

That is bugs though not DRM.
