What do I mean by that?

Well, I'm now the proud owner of three Paradox games, and I'm having a lot of fun with them. However, as someone who likes modding the game incl. the gfx files, I'm increasingly annoyed by the fact that there are lots of files on my installation(s) which are completely unused by the game(s), they seem to be "leftovers" from other Paradox games. Just recently I got DD where it's seems most serious (there are for example still lots of gfx files from EU II, and of course they are completely useless for DD), but it's similar in other titles too.

They consume space on my hd, they need time to be installed/de-installed, and if I want to mod something they are highly irritating, since you need a while before you id-ed those files neccessary for the game and those which are just doing nothing.

So please, can there be a "cleaner" installation for EU III? :)

Actually, what I'd like is a modular approach. I dont want to have to reinstall the game for each mod I try out. Perhaps all the mods could have separate folders and you could choose if you want to load one when launching the game. Kinda like Civ4 or Mount&Blade work.

Grosshaus: to be honest, no. Space isn't my main concern. OTOH I don't think it's a good excuse to say hard drives are big these days, and the files consume only so much. I generally think it should go without saying that a company does not throw useless stuff on the user's drive(s). And as said, it's quite irritating when you want to mod something.

I can understand opposing them as a matter of principle and as they irritate when modding, but not opposing them due to harddisk concerns. A photo or two can take more space.

I love the way Moddir works in EU2 .. it allows complete flexibility in what files are customised and which aren't. Great work on that Paradox.

If all files, including map, config, etc files could be worked the same way, it'd be absolutely awesome.
