How are you guys gonna implement this??? Can you make a choice between wich Pope you support? And can the Pope of Avingon win it this time???

Still, it was very important... And 1378-1417 isn't exactly within the EU II period is it???

Yes the Schism was settled a year or two before EU2 begins. So it's no wonder Paradox didn't include it ;)

And the Schism is an important event that should be included IMO. The Schism (among other things), evuntually lead to the Reformation.
Maybe it should be an event where in the beginning of the 14th century, the king of France will get an option to try to undermine the papal authority and move the Pope to Avignon. As a result of that the Great Schism would then erupt.

It's a rather funny story. In 1409 the Catholic church ended up having three different popes. IIRC there was one in Rome, one in Avignon and one somewhere inbetween :D

Pisa. That was John XXIII, at whose trial, as Gibbon put it, the greatest crimes were suppresed and the Vicar of Christ was only accused of rape, piracy, sodomy, and incest...

Given the importance that the Papacy would appear to have in the game, I would think that there would be a feature to allow you to support rival Popes. There were many Anti-Popes during the time period, not just during the Great Schism.

And of course

what about the heretical sects and their persecution?

Will regional heresies be included like the Waldensians, Albigensians, Cathars, etc?

But could Avingon win it this time???

I always loved the fact that just as the Avignon Papal Palaces where completed the Schism came to a close and they moved back to Rome :D
