I know Anschluss (sp?) event is influenced by the wehrmach size, but panzers are worth a lot more than infantry for the calculations?

I didn't field any panzers except for the divisions you get in the beginning, but I had quite sizable army of leg infantry by then (and mech/panzers being built) .. However, 1st I get the "Austria shall remain independent"-event and a little later "Czechs fight back!" in partitioning event..! I managed to claim austria straight after that .. but I decided Allies DOW put the writing on the wall for me and gave up ;-)

I think I would've walked all over what was left of Czech republic, but still they chose to fight. A good decision considering UK/France intervention.

I should have x divisions of mech/panzer to get favourable events? E-Infantry does not seem to do it.

I don't know the exact answer Barleyman but can tell you what I've learnt from gameplay.

After a refused Anchluss and a couple of less than ideal Czech outcomes (1 refusal, 1 "Czechs join the Axis") I learned that army size matters for these events.

So in early March 1938 I deploy a fair amount of vanilla infantry that I've already "built" - I don't deploy Engineers as I don't want my supply costs climbing too high. I usually end up with 65-70 infantry in the field, plenty of it deployed on the Austrian border :)

No more anschluss refusals which is nice.

Same sort of thing later in '38 for the czechs - I have around 80-90 infantry divisions in the field in readiness for the Munich Agreement and I make sure that I have units all along the Czech border.

I don't actually know if the total size of your army matters or whether it's just what you have deployed on the border with them that counts.

I have no mech deployed at all, and my 3 armoured divs are in SR awaiting upgrading.

Hope that helps.

Well as far as I know, the events have fixed chances for the various outcomes which are not influenced by army size/deployment.
Anschluss has something like 92%/4%/4% for annex, join axis, stay independent AFAIK from another thread.

cheers,
Brentor

I had them "stay independent" once when I had a small army (I was in the stage of expanding and all my troops where deployed to west and east fronts).

I pulled armies from both fronts thinking I could take them if I threw everything at them but then in a brilliant diplomatic move the czechs allied with the Allies and I quickly wished I hadnt moved my armies of the french border as the frogs stormed over my borders. I took about 1/2 of the czech land but failed to contain them and they took parts of austria.

In short I found my self short on supplies and fighting fierce battles just to hold on to what I had so I surrendered.

This taught me a valuble lesson though:
ALWAYS fortify your french border and prepare to invade the czechs. Have plenty of armies to contain them and bust through thier weak spots. Even if having big armies doesnt matter it makes a huge difference if those punks decide to act up.

Also the polish / danzig issue seems to me to depend on army size. They gave me danzig in my last game because I had a monsterous 120+ infantry divisions and 16 panzer divs. Maybe it was random, but it seemed prudent for them to go that route facing my army.

size of military doesn't seem to matter

Back when I still believed the manual, I built up heavily along the Czech and Austrian borders to influence the events. But like Brentor above, I believe the probabilities are fixed.

These days, I never build any new units at all until June 1936, and I get Czech and Austrian annexation about 95% of the time, and my 0-org troops never even mobilize on their borders.

I'm open to other interpretations, but it seems that these events have nothing to do with anyone's military strength or presence.

Event results are for now totally independent of army strength or composition. You were just a bit unfortunate.

But diplomatic results are influenced by size, strength etc, right?

As far as I know, diplomatic results will only depend on the amount of diplomatic points you have.
