Cholera has long been a local disease, but in the 19th century it became one of the most widespread and deadly diseases, claiming tens of millions of lives. The pandemic began in Bengal and by 1820 spread throughout India. Killed 10,000 British troops and countless Indians. The number of deaths in the Indian subcontinent between 1817 and 1860 is estimated at more than 15 million. Another 23 million died between 1865 and 1917. In Russia, the number of deaths during this period exceeded 2 million. And of course the Spanish Flu, the most massive flu pandemic in the history of mankind, both in terms of the number of people infected and the number of deaths. The epidemic lasted from January 1918 to 1920; worldwide, at least 550 million people (about 30% of the world's population) were infected with the Spanish flu. The number of deaths is estimated from 17 million to 50-100 million people, or 0.9-5.3% of the world's population, which makes this epidemic one of the largest catastrophes in the history of mankind. Will pandemics be featured in the game?

The simplest way to do this would be a large reduction to pop growth (going negative) during a set number of years, with maybe an event for the government to spend money to fight it. Maybe they'll do something more complicated and interesting, but this sounds like the kind of thing they'd leave for later

I don’t know why they wouldn’t be in Victoria 3 seeing as they’re in Victoria 2. All sorts of diseases and references to diseases occur, which are pretty bad for a country. Once in Vic2 I got Cholera in my capital province and it killed like 120,000 people. There’s a Spanish Flu event that spreads from country to country too, killing a crap ton of people, but it is rare. I modded it to make it happen more often, and it’s very cool to watch it spread.

Thats exactly how it works in Victoria 2.

I expect it to be a little more fleshed out in Vic 3.

I completely agree! As well I think that Malaria and sleep sickness should be huge limiting factor for population growth in the tropics and in Africa in particular. For example in central Africa millions of people died of sleeping sickness in the early 20th century

Spanish flu after ww1 was also huge, and in the time period.
It was huge.

But we shouldn't call it Spanish, since wherever it started, it almost certainly wasn't Spain :)
