can u create a pak or AA battalion or a whole regiment like an artillery batallion or can u have them only in the support regiment? would be sad if not
i think u did not understand my question. i asked if u can create a PanzerAbwehrKanone not as supportbatallion rather on the slot for infantry or tanks
Its for gamebalance reasons and combat width is a pure gamebalance value with not much correlation with reality. We need it because the smallest combat "components" we use are whole divisions.
a battalions worth in a division is generally measured foremost in damage and organization per combat width. So a battalion with say 0 width adding attack value will be infinitely good (cost is not such a good inhibitor always). Without introducing a totally different division designer mechanic for indirect fire (hey might happen some day) and if we want someone to look at artillery and infantry and go "hey artillery does great damage as i expected" you need to also have higher width to be able to balance it without. We tried with low width but generally that lead to artillery either being overpowered or not worth it compared to infantry.
With some width usage we can balance damage output and loss of org to match historical division makeup and get much less gamey results.
if you want a immersion reason, imagine how much larger area the division will take up opening up for flanking and directly overrunning the artillery etc![]()
You did not understand he answered yes to your question...
Yes, Artillery (as well as AA and AT) can be used as regular battalions/brigades (up to 5 battalions).
In HOI4, they use the term brigade which is more or less the same as a regiment (3-5 battalions). Each division is made of up to 5 brigades (when you have enough combat experience to unlock them).
The difference with support companies is that regular battalions/brigades will take some front width to avoid exploits (packing too much artillery), support companies will not take front width but will add less attack.
I don't think the term brigade is used in HOI4, but whatever.
...A Division Template is made up of Brigades which are made up of Battalions, this is represented by a grid of cells in 6 columns of 5 rows with each column being a Brigade and each cell being a Battalion - With the exception that the left-most column are Support Units of varying sizes. Support Units are different in that they either lend useful abilities such, as an improved reconnaissance ability, or powerful direct or indirect fire to your frontline troops.
If you can build a type of Division, you have access to a basic/historical Division Template, and you can customise it using Land Combat Experience. You can use Experience to swap out Battalions, or unlock either new Brigades or Battalions...
But where have you seen that we can only add up to 5 battalions of frontline ART/AA/AT?
In general battalion types like artillery have lower organisation yes so using them rather than infantry will lower it...
