In defensive wars or enforced peaces, I'm getting the impression that pagan nations can never take over as warleader from non-pagan nations. Is this true? I'm playing as a Shamanist Sweden and it's obstructing my enlightenment.

I'm not at home to test it, but I never knew about this. I think it would be pretty easy to use console integration to give yourself 100's of regiments, relations with Novgorod, and enforce on Muscovy, but I'd need to be at a machine where I could play the game.
You probably have more experience playing as pagans then anyone else, so if that's the impression you got, it's probably true

I'm just guessing here, but maybe the cost (war score), for total annexation has a major play when a nation becomes the warleader. Since pagans always can be fully annexed with 100% war score it prevents you from taking it.
If the nation that declared war used holy war CB, you can't become warleader if you are heretic or infidel.

No, only cleansing heresy locks war leader, or is this some kind of special rule? I'm pretty sure I've seen heathens take war lead on holy wars.
Heathens can most certainly take over as warleader in holy wars, I should know, just finished a WC as Orthodox Ottomans(yay!) and used that CB often for no dip-costs.
ok my bad, i wasn't specific enough. Still, some examples would be nice to derive if the issue at hand is related to Sweden being Pagan, or something else.
