I read 1.5 patch notes and worried about one aspect. I understand why impossible to liberate Hive Mind / Fallen Empire, but don't understand why there no other option to stop them except conquering. If you pacifist and you have dangerously growing Hive-mind / Awakened Empire, this will create situation, where you should choose between role-playing and surviving.

So i see this way to solve this issue - Pacify wargoal, which can be applied only to Hive minds/Fallen empires. After pacifying hive-mind/fallen empire acquires peaceful AI personality without any other changes. Hive-mind player loses, if his empire is pacified.

What do you think about this?

So i see this way to solve this issue - Pacify wargoal, which can be applied only to Hive minds/Fallen empires. After pacifying hive-mind/fallen empire acquires peaceful AI personality without any other changes. Hive-mind player loses, if his empire is pacified.

I think a full empire-ethics change is a bit too strong. I would rather go with something that prevents the losing empire from declaring any offensive wars for 10 years.

That's from an old dev diary and that feature was removed. It's only avalable to fanatical purifiers
Are you 100% on this? My current info is that it was added to Fanatical Purifiers, but not necessarily removed from the Tradition tree. (Which is reasonable, because the Purifiers kinda need it to get rolling early and cant idle around till they get the tradition, whilst the tradition allows non-purifier empires to pick the ability up as well.)

I think it would be better to do something like "cannot declare war on anyone for 20-30 years".

Not necessarily to pacify an entire empire. Pacifying can work just like liberating, so you will be able to pacify only some amount of planets. Only difference that pacifying changes AI personality, not ethos.

why it's "too strong"? it's the same as conquer...but you will not get his worlds.

Okay if you put it like this... But then the warscore cost needs to be similar as conquering the last couple of planets of an empire. It just feels stronger than vassalising, since a vassal still has the option to free himself again.

Take a look at the starcrossed starfish streams, cknoor is playing a militarist empire, and takes some of the militarist traditions, none of which are Armageddon bombardment, also someone on reddit somewhere has compiled all of the traditions, and Armageddon bombardment is not on the list.

too bad. after news about interaction of FP with enclaves i probably have no intention to play them. but Armageddon looked like a nice reward for peeking into supremacy tree.
well..there are still plenty of interesting things in other trees.

back to the topic. i have a question to the OP:
what will happen to pacified empires? not from the perspective of the said empire.
i mean will they still be on a map or it'll be simply Cleanse for pacifists? will you be able to rival them or do any interractions? will they still have the borders and will they be closed or opened for everyone? will you be able to de-pacify them?

I read 1.5 patch notes and worried about one aspect. I understand why impossible to liberate Hive Mind / Fallen Empire, but don't understand why there no other option to stop them except conquering. If you pacifist and you have dangerously growing Hive-mind / Awakened Empire, this will create situation, where you should choose between role-playing and surviving.
You are fully able to Vassalize a Hivemind. At wich point he will be unable to declare wars of Conquest.
Liberating them makes no sense: They would just form another Hivemind. That would rejoin thier existing Hivemind. So you just archieved absolutely nothing by liberating them.

Liberating a Fallen Empire brings you nothing:
The Liberated Empire will not be able to build FE ships (it is a default empire, not a Awakeend FE Empire).
And it will still count as "planet owned by default Empire" for Triggering Awakening.
If you can beat the FE in a war once, they will be limited to however few ships they can get via teh reinforcement event. So at that point they would be non-dangerous.
Liberating them puts you in a state where awakening will happen. But you do not have direct player level access to the resources of the FE. Wich was a poor position to begin with.

Any kind of Liberation, Conquest or Vassalisation means that the FE has been "defeated" by the upstarts. And thus a awakening of the others should happen.
Most options are turned off, simply to keep those checks simple enough. Limiting the interaction to conquest means they could even limit it to only trigger if a player owns a FE world.

The reason people have been liberating FEs and the reason it's been patched out is because they're then spawned with every tech in the game and are then willing to sign research agreements - particularly with you, their beloved liberators.

For maximum cheese, you can actually annex all of their systems save one, liberate that and get all the research benefits combined with the juicy FE core world resources.
