guys before i start 2 things i havnt played this game yet due to not having a 64 bit operating system, but i do own it on steam. didnt wanna ask for a refund cause i am dying to play it it looks awesome

Also disclaimer: i have no modding skills or programming skills whatsoever so i am hoping someone will see this idea and think genius lets make this

I would love to see a Pacific Rim style mod desinged around the same idea as the movie
IE that monsters are coming

BUt it would be a prequle to the movie because the movie kinda skipped over the very first monster attack

lets say that when you started your city with this mod you had 8 years before the first attack (it can be anytime based on the pacing) then 4 then 2 then 1 then half a year ... ect ect
Until you were completely overwhelmed and wiped out ..... IF you didnt not meet the goal of closing the rift before the MECHS where coming at 60 mins then 30 then 15 ect ect
also like the movies the catagory of monster would increase but so would your ability to create lets just call them MECHS to avoid getting sued :)

so from now on its MECHS versus MONSTER /wink :)

so your goal is to create a city that while still being viable with all the normal ingame mechanics you also have to find a way of setting aside money to invest in the MECH programme which will upset your citizens if you appear to be neglecting all the basic requirement of a happy city

your mech WONDERS would be a massive undertaking and getting to that first one should be very difficult from a financial stand point and if built to early would make your citizens really unhappy cause no one is scared of/worried about a monster they havnt seen yet

so again like the movie a WALL should be buildable around your city to protect you from that first attack.. SPOILER but its not that effective

the first MONSTER would only be a catagory 1 so it wouldnt do that much damage and your police department and fire departments would be able to kill it if you have enough coverage or after a while if you cant defeat it it would just return to the ocean and pass back through the rift

i would also love the DEATH spot of monsters to then become industy zones where they take full advantage of the new resources only available when a monster dies... this could then inturn be used to increase your mechs abilities and power ... so that way they can rank up to deal with the ever increasing level of the monsters

Moster Kills would make everyone in your city insanely happy and allowing you to increase taxes (to insane levels for a short period) for your MECH program... but a monster escaping alive would have the exact opposite effect making it much harder to get the money you need due to people dying and fleeing from your city

so to recap

1. you have to build your city knowing that monsters are coming
2. both your mechs and the monsters can become better killing 'machines' over time
3. end game is build AMAZING AWESOME SCIENCE lab to allow melding with left over monster brains to understand how to close the rift
4. close the rift to win or go down fighting at the very least


as i said in the title its only an idea i had cause i love the movie Pacific Rim and this mod could basically be a 'real life' simulation of that movie

i honestly hope someone who can make mods/program loves the idea and works with the developers to make it happen
or the developers themself contact the team behind the REAL movie and get something worked out i would be happy to by THAT DLC pack i already game them my money for a game i cannot currently play this DLC /mod would force me to buy a new PC immediately

it IMHO could be a game changer in the city building genre or at the very very least a really interesting distraction

As entertaining as this is, I don't see this happening for some time, if at all. It's just not that kind of a game. Then again, the mod community has done some incredible things. I certainly wouldn't anticipate any official release with this happening. Maybe someone out there will read this and think it's as you say, genius, and give it a go. There are already mission based maps / saves out there, so it's not impossible but it would require elements that haven't even been introduced to the game yet like the monsters / rifts and even the "defense / offense" measures. As it stands now, I would think this was something better served for a game like Anno tbh. It is interesting though.

its gonna be a while before i can even play the actual base game due to my really bad PC so there is no rush ... i just love the idea of all the tiny little cars and building being kicked about by mechs and monsters
