Pacific Island Question

Where the Pacific Islands are close together, and you can walk from one to another, is this consider a land attack, or a costal assault? I'm asking because I want to know if costal or land fortifications are more useful in this instance.

Also, playing a game CORE v1.06 and Russia is a Juggernaught! Creaming Germany in 1944 (they own past the Maginot line). They also demolished the Maginot line. How is that possible? I didn't think you could take out fortifications.....

Fortifications may be destroyed when you conquer a province. Specially if the combat was long or the attacked used a Fortress Buster.

2. For the Maginot line, in CORE, when the Germans invade France, there is a series of events which take down the forts from level 10 to level 3 when german forces get to the french provinces next or behind the Maginot line.

So, when the russians got there, they only had to beat level 3 forts. (the explanation given in the post before is also good)

I think that sometimes it is considered a river assault.

Am I crazy, or does it take around 3 months to "walk" from one Pacific island to the other, while "walking" via transport ships takes maybe a week at the most? Doesn't that sound a little screwy, or in the former case, are the troops reduced to swimming there?

Yeah, I know thistletooth.... I have the Japanese army with 100 div on a island surrounded by my USA navy, and the army I sent to walk/swim took so long I was in danger of losing my navy to a combination of convoy battles and being out too long. Had to call off the whole thing.

I'm just going to nuke that island when I get another nuke......
