I find it pretty funny (read: bad) that when England or other Western countries get provinces in India, by a decade or two later (at latest), the provinces they own are all Protestant/Catholic/Reformed. I'd say there could be two fixes for this:
1. A steep reduction in missionary power in overseas provinces OR
2. Overseas provinces do not contribute (positively or negatively) to religious unity. This is working under the assumption that countries convert provinces based on religious unity- if they do it anyway, I suppose option one is the only option.
