Lo folks, with the new region and exclave sytem that will be introduced in the patch accompinying the naxt DLC they're adding a new region system, It jusr dawned on me that this region system kind of makes the colonial regions superfolous, instead of colonial regions make it so that onc eyou have five cored provinces of your culture and religion in a distant overseas exclave you get a decison to form a colonial nation out of it. Yes that means that you might get a small area colonial nation at first but as you increase it it'll become a region colonial nation and eventually perhaps even a superregion colonial nation (brittish north america for an example). In addition two colonial nations next to each other should give you decision to merge them (just like how two exclaves that ends up adjecent merges to one) with the more powerful getting all the cores of the weaker (or if one is player controlled the player controlled on takes priority).
Now some of you will have spotted that this will mean colonial nations everywhere where there are uncolonised provinces. Enter the second part of my mechanic, colonies with equal or more native population to 1000 does not change culture and relgion upon colonisation. Simply because the colonies outside of the old colonial regions really didn't become dutch portugese or english. Aside from a few islands (which generally have less native population than 1000).
