This is how I finally managed to establish an independent kingdom of Sápmi after several attempts.
We are house Magga of Sápmi. We are used to fight raiders and robber bands from across the gulf, but in the year 1067 the king of the southern lands came to Sápmi with an army and a cross. There wasn't much to be done about it, we were not ready for it. But the old ways had to be abandoned in order to survive. Reluctantly we took their cross and went on with it. It wasn't enough however, and soon the king returned anew. He figured that if couldn't drive us away, he could instead assert his "god given right to rule" us. That's how he phrased it. Fine, we would swear fealty, but we would still remain in our lands.
We had imagined it being worse, but being under the kings protection surprisingly brought oportunities. It paved the way to expand our grazing lands within the realm. You see, with the blurred borders of the kings many vassals, border disputes gave the tribal families claims to press. And with the southeren kings busying themselves to fight any other poor people they could find, they were none the wiser. For over eighty four years the tribal families settled around the entirety of Norrland and beyond, also in Jämtland and Bergslagen too.
The southern lands were different from that of ours. Surely we had heard and knew about it, but never until now did we see the point. We took inspiration from their ways and built mottes and bailys of our own. Even in Sápmi. This however arraused attention from the king.
King Bo Karlsson was of the Gren family, and he had seen our expansion. No longer were there any swedish lords to the north as he had thought, as the kings before Bo had made it. They were all under sápmi rule now. In an effort to divide us, king Bo rallied the remaining lords of the south. He sent the royal bull to the great chief Mokci, an ultimatum to split the sápmi lands into pieces. Additionally, the children of sápmi vassals would henceforth send their newborns to the southeren lords as wards. He figured that the culture of the sápmi children could be tampered with. Rejection would lead to war. This was the ultimatum.
Two times before had the sápmi people bent to the southeren kings, but there would be no third. After eighty four years of oppression by the intolerable geats and swedes, the sápmi tribes rose up in revolt. For two years skirmishes were fought alongside the borders, until the final battle stood in Närke. Led by great chief Mokci Magga, the sápmi people were victorous and routed the army of king Bo Karlsson. Afterwards, king Bo was forced to recognize Mokci as a king in his own right. Sápmi finally ruled over themselves once more.
As if the game took pity on Sweden, the Viking Metal DLC soundtrack "Our Kingdom Will Fall" played in the final events of the war. The initial idea was just to make a post and find out exactly who composed this remix and who sings in it. But I ended up writing a story about it all. Anyway, can anyone tell me more about the composer?
