Oh, I agree. But they're reworking a lot of the game, so maybe they can do that at some point. Conquest should be easy, in a way. Holding on to what you've taken, on the other hand, that should be hard.

That would be an interesting shift, for sure, but I'd guess something that fundamental would have to wait for an EU 5.

Still, maybe they'll surprise me.

Instead they start out slow, and accumulate more and more power, becoming nigh unstoppable in the late game.

Lategame Ottoman Empire is nothing but a pile of dev ready for the picking.

The ottomans may not have the best quality, but they still make up for it in sheer manpower, and mercenaries too.
Doesn't matter. Even if they run rampant there will be someone close to on par with them for you to ally.
You also get a lot more involuntary friends.

You have league wars, them attacking into the HRE, you can ally Russia or PLC, sometimes it's possible to call in Ming.
And since everyone hates them all you need to do is crash them once and wait for others to take what they deserve.

That's the political side of it, but they're even worse if we're looking at a pure 1v1 scenario.
AI nations can't say "let's just focus on mil groups because that guy is dangerous".
Run into them with 4 full mil groups and appropriate policies and suddenly every nation feels like you've picked Prussia.

People still complaining about their strength remind me of this guy who complained about Ming being too difficult.
He picked Humanist, Influence, Administrative, diplomatic and economic.
Sure. If you never hire a useful advisor, avoid picking mil groups, never use policies, don't keep Russia or PLC alive as an ally and much more you will have to fight teeth and nails against them.

That's the player's fault though. Everyone is strong if you make yourself weak on purpose.

Can't nocb Poland as Ulm in 1444 either. Doesn't mean Poland is strong.

Something else worth mentioning, is that the Ottomans cannot into Algiers; historically, Algiers offered itself to the Ottoman Empire in return for its cores being fed back to it to put it in game terms. This was despite the Ottoman empire's closest point at the time being the Peloponnesian Peninsula. To get that to ever happen (I've never seen an AI Ottomans even make it to Tunisia) would require a serious rework of vassalisation acceptance conditions.

another crimean march event ?

The community would go apeshit.

So glad they finally removed the Crimean event.

It does happen from time to time, but it's gotten pretty rare overall. It was the worst. Taking it away from the Ottoman Empire was the hardest nerf on recent patches and it was totally deserved.

The ottomans may not have the best quality, but they still make up for it in sheer manpower, and mercenaries too.

they never take military ideas outside of quantity and offensive, which makes them hilariously weak.

If you go revolutionary and take 'm on (or even without), they are easily defeated.

I do agree, lategame ottoman is nothing but a big pile of dev waiting to be eaten.

Lategame Ming with Defensive, quantity, offensive and quality (I had that once) fielding 1+million troops on very hard is a lot.... harder.

Or a real blobby tropical Indochina nation like Ayutthaya. Ouch 4% base attrition.

PLC? Pwah, their fort positioning makes them incredibly vulnerable.

Anyways, the Ottomans should be contained at first or plain on engaged if you got the power/allies, or be conserved for after you get 100% absolutism.

and yaddayadda offtopic, i know.

As said before, the success of the Ottoman is entirely dependant on RNG of ruler personalities.
