Great fun until the early 1600s, after that it gets a little tedious with all bad events and bad monarchs...
Good country to play and conquest the world. Nasty events in the end game just create more challenge.

Was the first nation I played the game to completion with. Very fun game. Revolts get very bad in the later part of the game, and you have to watch out for badboy. Very fun though, and you're very powerful. Plus you can beat on Austria and prevent them from being the huge power they usually become.
I know of a multiplayer game me and two friends played. I was France, one pal Austria and the second the Ottoman Empire. He did realy well and had a realy strong economy and so. Me and Austria had similar strength, but the Ottoman empire was double that.
So Ottoman can be realy powerful. Hasn't played it myself though.

I consider the Ottomans to be one of the most fun countries to play, because, you must admit, that at its core, EU2 is about conquering stuff, and with the Ottomans, you can be the world conquering evil dude, and still remain historical.
Turkish, greek, slavonic and arabic culture + a lot of cores. There is nothing more to say .

The OE can be weak for the first 50 years or so. Most people think it's best to begin by annexing the Duchy of Athens before dealing with Byzantium, but too many wars to take too much land early in the game can bring a deadly alliance of Venice, Hungary and others down on your head. Also take care when you decide to invade Albania - Skenderbeg is a very tough leader to beat.

Offensive war is harder because you have to conquer their islands. It's actually good if Austria grows big, with fewer states there'll be fewer AI armies. And Austria will tech more slower than before.

Playing as Byzantium is like playing as orthodox Ottomans. Differences are that you have to defeat Ottomans at the start and you don't have all the cool event's which give CoT, Fine arts academy, conscription centre etc. Also you lack some usefull cultures, but cores are pretty much the same.
You could convert to Catholicism and play that way, or use AGCEEP with Byz.
Ottomans are really a fun time though. It's just that their constant revolts towards the end are terrible. I suppose if I played again I could do far better.
