I have in my game as Germany released the Ottoman empire as my latest facist puppet state.
However I was a bit surprised at what leaders I got.

Head of State: Abdul Hamid II
Head of Government: Abdulhamid Talaat Pasha
and a lot others from the Pasha-clan.

Problem: These guys were dead IRL long before HOI2 even starts in 1936.
Abdul Hamid II was born 1842 and died 1918
Abdulhamid Talaat Pasha born 1872 and died 1921
just like many of the Pasha-brothers (or cousins or whatever they are).

So it seems that Paradox has made a rather poor job researching the possible leaders of an Ottoman Empire.
The head of state would in my game (if he wasnt already dead 1918) be over 100 years old!

So who would possibly in 1936 and after be the potential heir to the Ottoman Empire since it seems that Abdul Hamid II did not have any children. Or was there a facist movement at the time in Turkey that would try to resurrect the Ottoman Empire?

Wow. You are absolutely right; all of these Ottoman ministers *are* dead (except for a notable few, like Ismet Inönü Pasha and Mustapha Kemal [Atatürk] himself)!

Though "Pasha" is a political title if I'm not mistaken, not a family name; that's why there were so many. Anyway... according to Wikipedia, the Ottoman crown prince was a fellow named

Abdul Mejid II (dies 23 August 1944)

And his eldest son went by the name of:

Shehzade Ömer Faruk Effendi (though I can find no picture of him).

As for the other ministers... maybe take the Paternal Autocrats and Fascists from regular Turkey and add a few "Pasha"s at the end? :D

You've certainly inspired me to edit my game; I don't want dead fogies running the Empire. I have no idea what sort of minister traits the Sultan or his heir would have... maybe a "Popular Figurehead", since he's likely to be installed by Hitler or someone else.

Pasha (Pasa) is a title used for Generals or equivalent ranked officers of Ottoman Empire, and still in use inofficially.

Taken from Wikipedia in regard to response to question of "what happened to Facist/Fundamentalist movement.."

*****************************

Kemal Pasha spent the next several years consolidating his control over Turkey and instituting a variety of wide-ranging political, economic and social reforms. These reforms caused some opposition in the Republican People's Party which was founded by Mustafa Kemal in September 9th 1923. Then Mustafa Kemal directed General Kazım Karabekir to establish the Progressive Republican Party for opposition in Turkish National Assembly. This party opposed state socialism of the Republican People's Party and suggested liberalism. But after some time, the new party was taken over by people Ataturk considered fundamentalists. In 1925, partly in response to the provocations of Sheikh Said, the Maintenance of Order Law was passed, giving Ataturk the authority to shut down subversive groups. The Republican People's Party was quickly disestablished under the new law, an act seen by some as necessary for preserving the Turkish state, but seen by others as the act of a dictator.

On August 11th, 1930 Mustafa Kemal decided to try a democratic movement once again. He charged Ali Fethi Okyar with establishing a new party. In Mustafa Kemal's letter to Ali Fethi Okyar, laicism was insisted on. At first, the brand new Liberal Republican Party succeeded all around the country. But once again the opposition party became too strong in its opposition to Atatürk's reforms, particularly in regard to the role of religion in public life. Finally Ali Fethi Okyar abolished his own party and Mustafa Kemal never succeeded in democratising the parliamentary system.

**********************************

In present day, there are still fundamentalist/communist supporters in Turkey, whom still find support from foreign countries as well as self support, but these movements are suppressed by majority of Turkish population because of our loyalty to Ataturk and to his reforms, and also Turkish Army is a "fail-safe" protector of Reforms and Democracy.

And, to whom they call Ataturk as a Dictator, I would like to remind them "TO SECURE PEACE, YOU HAVE TO PREPARE FOR WAR!" and no dictator has ever bring this much freedom and democracy to his country...

Yes they were dead IRL, but releasing OTT is totally ahistorical as well... It's actually the case in a few other revolters as well. If releasing OTT is possible in game -- like anyone would have allowed that IRL -- the game already deviated from history and we can safely assume some of them still lived :) Don't think about it too much :D

Well I'd say it wouldn't be totally unrealistic to form an Ottoman empire, though chances of it being formed was much higher in the previous generation (from late 1920s to early 30s).

Mustafa Kemal's resistance, which culminated with the establishment of the republic was also a process of exclusion. Those who were Istanbul, thus Ottoman, leaning (political, military and sometimes econ. elites) and unwilling to cooperate with the revolution were excluded from the politics of the revolution. And even as late as 1940's there were prominent members of Ottoman political elite under relaxed "house-arrests" (even Ismet Inonu was under house arrest for sometime I believe). So many people who have proven themselves on military and statecraft were indeed "unemployed" (One example I remember of is a case of a committee, established to oversee the translation of Quran into Turkish. The committee couldn't find within the cadres of the newly formed republic any "doctor of religion" with necessary expertise, so the committee asked a prominent religious dignitary of the 1910s Ottoman era to translate the Quran. This was appearantly the only task this person acquiesced to do, and only for the wider interest of the public. He continued his self imposed house arrest after his work was complete).

To cut it short, I think it is only possible to find Ottoman cadres excluded by the Republic from active political and intellectual life. The names of many prominent Ottoman officials, officers and academia could be found in the memoirs of early Republican figures and especially the Nutuk (adventures of Kemal and Co. ).

Of course there is the obligatory research-it-if-you-have-time disclaimer, and unfortunately I don't have time. But the political cadres, cronies, good and bad guys are there.
