Wiz was stating in the latest Stellaris stream, that the "Hive Mind" government is supposed to be a unique experience, with certain drawbacks and advantages, that this hive mind is supposed to be biological.

I totally respect that. Wanting to make biological hive minds (like the Zerg swarm for example) an own unique experience is an awesome goal.
But this leaves open space for other kinds of hive minds for later expansions.

We could possibly see a synthetic kind of hive mind, with its own mechanics different from the biological hive mind much later, or a psionic kind of hive mind.

I would really like that, making other kinds of hives, their own distinct playstyles, instead of giving the generic "hive mind" the opportunity to do everything, making them just another "normal" government type.

I'm somewhat opposed to going too deep into this one mechanic. The Hive Mind government, in my opinion, should represent a "catch-all" for both biological and synthetic collectives. This is not even a "other things are more important" whataboutism argument - I just think that subdividing this one government would go against the level of abstraction all other government types operate on.

I see this more in mod territory, to be honest, for those who are interested in exploring different hive minds (whatever those may entail).

I think it would be a pretty cool Ascendancy path to have a species turn Hivemind as Psions or Synths. Some late-game thing that really changes your empire.

The current Hive mind is Psionic in Nature, but can not enter the shroud. It was the simplest way to solve the issues of Interstellar communications.
Technological might run into Bandwith Limits.
